Army of the Pharaohs (AOTP) was initially conceived by lead emcee Vinnie Paz of the independent powerhouse group Jedi Mind Tricks. His vision was a constantly-evolving, collaboration of epic proportions that would include MC's, producers and DJ's. AOTP's first incarnation included Bahamadia, Jedi Mind Tricks, Chief Kamachi, 7L & Esoteric and Virtuoso and resulted in the wildly successful 12" single, "Five Perfect Exertions." The response was beyond all expectations and fans worldwide have clamored for more material ever since. 2006 saw the long awaited debut The Torture Papers, which has scanned 20,000+ units to date. The supergroup's sophomore offering, Ritual of Battle, reunites the winning formula, once again featuring the legendary lineup of underground emcees/artists including Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks, Outerspace, Apathy, 7L & Esoteric, Celph Titled, Chief Kamachi, King Syze, Faez One as well as first time AOTP constituent (and renowned former Jedi Mind Tricks member) Jus Allah & many more. Of particular note (and to rabid core fan delight) is the inclusion of the first collaborative effort of original material between Jedi Mind Tricks' founding members Vinnie Paz & Jus Allah since 2000's Violent By Design. Ritual of Battle is released to heightened anticipation, shortly after Jedi Mind Tricks' return from a coveted slot on the entirety of the wildly popular Rock The Bells summer tour 2007.

The Torture Papers is the debut album from Hip Hop collective Army of the Pharaohs, released March 21, 2006 on Babygrande Records. The crew was established in 1998 by Jedi Mind Tricks rapper Vinnie Paz, and originally featured Paz, Chief Kamachi, Esoteric, Virtuoso and Bahamadia. Virutoso and Bahamadia later split from the group, which now conists of Paz, Chief Kamachi, 7L & Esoteric, Apathy, Crypt the Warchild & Planetary of Outerspace, King Syze, Reef the Lost Cauze, Faez One, Des Devious and Celph Titled. An Army of the Pharaohs collaboration album was rumored to be in the works for years, but was often delayed due to separate projects and internal problems. The constant delays lead to The Torture Papers being one of the most anticipated underground Hip Hop albums of the new millennium.

FILI-
A straight up classic for me, I love AOTP and this album should be in every real hip hop heads collection. The main standout MC's for me on this album were Reef The Lost Cauze, Apathy, Celph Titled, Chief Kamachi & Planetary. All have their part to play though in making this album a true nod to that gutter underground boom bap sound with murder-death-kill lyrics, it don't get much harder than this. Make sure you cop this if you ain't already... Long Live The Army!!!

The third official full-length release from 7L & Esoteric shows the maturity of the pair that has given us twelve straight years of raw Hip-Hop. 7L handles all the production save one J-Zone-produced banger and Esoteric shows why he is one of the most consistent and talented writers in the game today. The duo is supported by lyrical appearances from Army Of The Pharoahs (Vinnie Paz, Outerspace & King Syze), Demigodz (Apathy Celph-Titled, & Rise), MainFlow, & Boston vets Beyonder, KT & Uno The Prophet. Sit back, relax, and remember why you got into rap in the first place...7L & Esoteric proudly present DC2: Bars Of Death.

19. Hidden Track 2

FILI-
This albums really show why 7L is one of the best and most respected producers out there. Eso kinda lost a few people when his flow changed to this sort of lazy drawl where you couldn't realy make out what he was sayin. I mean compare his flow on this to the previous albums and you'll see what I mean. The beats really do shine here and Eso still does his thing on the mic. My particular favorite tracks are "Rise Of The Rebel", "This Is War" which features an early start for the now infamous A.O.T.P., "Grace Of Gods" which features a sick verse from punchline king Rise. Another standout is the excellent "Another Way Out". In my opinion, this classic material, and I appreciate it more because they really went in another direction, soundwise, for the next album, a bit too eclectic for me. So definitely cop this, a true representation of what real hip hop should sound like.

After the group’s collaboration with Wu-Tang Clan’s Inspectah Deck, they released their debut lp, The Soul Purpose in the summer of 2001. 18. Play It Cool
19. Guest List (Prod. by The ARE)
20. State Of The Art (Feat. Akrobatik, Cadence & Checkmark) (Prod. by Raw Produce)

Since 1996, when this duo dropped its first single, many people have been awaiting a full-fledged album release. Five years later it finally arrived, and Soul Purpose is definitely worth the wait. The production on the album is top-notch, with quality cutting and sampling that works well for the overall sound. The beats produced by 7L are space odyssey-ish, with a bit of Deltron 3030 and a futuristic feel, with xylophones, brass instruments, and strange throbbing sounds. The beats match with Esoteric's strong, slow, plodding delivery found on just about every track. His rhymes seem to stand out more when there's another MC on the track, such as with Mr. Lif on "Operating Correctly" or with Apathy and Reks on "Public Execution." There's an interesting circus-sounding beat on "Guest List" that should be checked out, too. A good album overall, with depth and great length at 20 tracks, Soul Purpose is evidence of what these guys are capable of. Definitely look forward to more good things from these two.

Dangerous Connection is a plot over a year in the making. Due to the sensitive nature of the material on this recording beats and rhymes were exchanged using secret drops and technologies. Conversations with Brick label heads were conducted only on secure and scrambled phone lines. Only now that sounds and information are coming to public light can we discuss openly the network of operatives it took to bring Dangerous Connection to a waiting Hop Hop nation. An underground network of beat makers and rhyme sayers including KutMasta Kurt, Stoupe & Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks, J-Live, Count Bass D and The Beyonder were utilized, though due to tight security all were never assembled in the same location. At the center of this Hip Hop plot, Brick Records with 7L & Esoteric....a Dangerous Connection with an explosive result.

Disciples of the camp of Divine Styler, Los Angeles's Styles of Beyond lack the spiritual commitment of their mentor yet more than make up for it with deft rhyme construction, a hungry battle attitude, and a cosmic-comic understanding of the world around them. Their sound is a cross between that of Mobb Deep and Camp Lo, mixing casual storytelling with penetrating insult, and whether it's dealing with interdimensional transmissions, lyrical transgressions, or biological transformations, MCs Takbir and Ryu do it with class and finesse. The production, largely supplied by Vin Skully, is uniformly outstanding, abusing the sampler and the turntable to penetrating depths. As Takbir says on "Styles of Beyond," they'll continue to be "the number 3 letters on your flip phone: D-E-F till my death."

J.J. Brown MySpace Page

Louis Logic debuted with 2003's Sin-A-Matic, an underground hit that introduced the Philadelphia rapper to a wider audience. The follow-up, Misery Loves Comedy, gives co-credit to producer J.J. Brown, a wise move because Brown's inventive, varied settings are the album's most consistently entertaining feature. Vintage old-school soul samples and jazzy minor-key instrumental themes are Brown's primary stock in trade, but the producer cleverly integrates unexpected sound effects in between without crossing over into show-offy gimmickry. (In particular, the opening of "Up to No Good," balancing Stereolab-like vintage synth washes with a deep soul guitar line and wordless male/female vocals, is simply outstanding.) Over all of this, Logic's raps tend to focus on his experiences with women, and as the title indicates, the news isn't good. However, instead of the usual bitches-and-hos misogyny, Logic gamely accepts his own shortcomings on songs like "All Girls Cheat" and "A Perfect Circle," even as other tracks feature more typical sly braggadocio along the lines of "Classy McNasty." The album's centerpiece track, "The Withdrawal Method," is the best of the bunch lyrically, a clear-eyed examination of a relationship's end that sounds like Nick Hornby could have written it. Funny, sharp, and surprisingly honest, Misery Loves Comedy is a big lyrical step up from Logic's earlier, more broadly comic records.

Every once in a while an emcee comes out of nowhere and releases a mind-blowing modern hip-hop classic debut album that is filled with intelligence, insanity, sharp wit, and a balance of solid beats and tight rhymes. Louis Logic has been making some minor noise in the underground circuit for some time now. His association with Apathy and The Demigodz gave him some shine but only now is he getting the recognition he deserves.

He hooked up with Solid Records and released his debut solo album “Sin-A-Matic”. Produced by J.J. Brown, Memo Of The Molemen, The Avid Record Collector and others, “Sin-A-Matic” is unlike any other hip-hop album out today while it has that classic hip-hop feel at the same time. Lyrically, Louis Logic is a wild man. While some people compare him to Eminem due to his dark humor, hard punch lines, and sharp wit, Louis Logic is truly a unique emcee. While Eminem rhymes about doing drugs, Louis Logic is an unashamed alcoholic. He can drink almost anyone under the table. His friend, Vinnie from Jedi Mind Tricks dubbed him “The Dragon” or “The Drunken Dragon”. Even with tons of alcohol in his system, Louis Logic pumped out an album with songs that were both funny, poignant, intelligent, and devilishly clever. “The Ugly Truth” is a perfect example of a deliciously wicked Louis Logic track. Each verse explores the hatred of different religions, cultures, and races. Stereotypes and hateful (yet hilarious) remarks are made against Black people, gays, Asians, and more. Then, at the end of the song, the listener is shocked to hear that the narrator is actually George Bush. Many of the songs on “Sin-A-Matic” have this intense, hardcore wit.

Louis Logic finds the humor in the ugly. From freaking out on “Postal” to betrayal on “Best Friends” to retribution on “Revenge!” and sex and women on “Coochie Coup”, “Idiot Gear”, and “The Rest”, Louis Logic tackles both new and old themes in a completely fresh and exciting way. While known for his clever punch lines, Logic crafted his skill on telling exciting stories and rhyming in new and different ways. As an emcee, he is versatile, unique, and hungry. Fueled by tons of alcohol, he gets help from other emcees like Celph Titled and Apathy.

The album does have the cinematic quality where you can listen to the entire LP in one sitting. Louis Logic is more than just an emcee. He also writes for Elemental Magazine. On a hot evening in August 2003, Louis Logic and I sat down and had an in-depth conversation about alcohol, sex, women, hip-hop, racism, music business, and life in general. So, Delve into you dark side, explore your sins, crack open the beers, and let The Drunken Dragon roar.

In early 2002, the Demigodz underground supergroup, then consisting of Apathy, Celph Titled, Esoteric, Louis Logic, Rise, L-Fudge, Open Mic and many other skilled MC's went on to release a classic EP with Los Angeles-based Ill Boogie Records entitled "The Godz Must Be Crazy." The release was one of the most popular of that year within the independent hip hop genre, due to its large line-up of star power and strong buzz for frontmen Apathy & Celph Titled. Shortly after its release, the label went under and the CD quickly became out of print and hard to find, despite the high demand. Demigodz Entertainment in association with Endless Recordings now brings you this classic EP as a massive 2-disc remastered Deluxe Edition, featuring 6 unreleased songs recorded in the same sessions intended for the Demigodz full length at that time. In addition to the 6 bonus songs, the 2nd disc contains full instrumentals to all the songs from the original EP as well as the new bonus tracks. This double disc release also showcases brand new original artwork in limited edition form. "The Godz Must Be Crazier" is a classic piece of underground hip hop capturing an early era of an indie goldmine, making this a necessary purchase for heads across the board.

Following up last year's widely successful "Eastern Philosophy" on Babygrande, a tour with Mike Shinoda's Fort Minor, and a buzzstirring "Baptism By Fire" mixtape, Apathy returns with the highly anticipated 2nd installment of his popular "It's the Bootleg, Muthafuckas!" series. Just like 2003's "Volume 1", this compilation continues in the tradition of being a chock-full double disc (2CD) limited edition set. 38 digitally mastered tracks in all, this eye-opening collection includes mostly unreleased vaulted material spanning the earlier years of his career up to his Atlantic Records recording sessions. In addition, there are 12" only songs, collaborations, freestyles and remixes never previously released in CD format. Apathy, the frontman of his highly respected Demigodz crew, is an underground veteran who has been making and appearing on timeless indie hip hop records since 1997, beginning with Jedi Mind Tricks' "Psycho-Social" album and following up with countless classic 12" vinyl singles from the now defunct but legendary late 90's indie label, Bronx Science. "Hell's Lost & Found" represents a strong staple in the underground hip hop genre and will be a must-have item for all Apathy, Fort Minor and Demigodz associated fans worldwide.
