The Misanthropist is a hip hop producer from Stockholm, Sweden. Stocklyn Retrospective is his debut album featuring artists such as Royce da 5'9, Masta Ace, Termanology, Trife da God, Tame One, Pumpkinhead, Mr Metaphor and many more.

The Misanthropist's sound is rough and features a lot of chopped up samples and straight drums, very much inspired by how hip hop was made in New York in the mid 90's. Big influences are DJ Premier, RZA, J-Zone, 9th Wonder, Pete Rock and Madlib to name a few.

The New Jersey native known as DJ K.O. (Keenan Ormsby) has teamed up with Shaman Work Recordings to release the best hip-hop compilation to come out in years.

Picture This... matches a seemingly endless roster of hip-hop's hottest MC's with an equally impressive group of producers. The result is a tribute to hip-hop's past, present, and future.

Veterans like Diamond D, OC, Masta Ace, and Edo G bring back the past, while lyricists like Talib Kweli, Elzhi (Slum Village), Phonte (Little Brother) and Royce da 5'9" represent today's hottest performers, and newbies like Skyzoo, Kaze, Supastition, Silent Knight and Tiffany Paige set the bar for what's to come. Featuring tracks produced by Black Milk, Buckwild Analogic, 9th Wonder and M-Phazes (to name a few) the album definitely has something for everyone.

The man behind this masterpiece is DJ K.O., who kept one thing on his mind when creating the line up: "I approached this as a hip-hop a fan, he says. "I thought about my own ideal collaborations and took it from there."

K.O. used his connections from the college radio show he hosted at Rutgers, along with spinning and promoting parties in NYC to get the ball rolling. In 2004, he formed Elementality Productions. It wasn't long until K.O. shared his vision with John Robinson, (member of What's The Science? and President of Shaman Work Recordings). Three years later, the finished product exceeds even K.O.'s expectations.

"Most of the songs are good, old-fashioned hip-hop," he explains. "There's a raw, angry gutter sound mixed with more smooth, soulful tracks."

With Picture This... hitting stores in September, KO's eyes are already set on the future. "I'm a lot more focused on the behind-the-scenes stuff than dee-jaying", he says. "The aspects of A&R, management, and executive producing are most appealing to me."

He also hopes to continue to provide a platform for new performers to be heard on a large scale.

"Nowadays, it's so hard to break an artist", he says. "I knew there were so many dope artists who just needed a chance to be heard."

One of the best compilations released this decade!!! You can't help but jump out your seat when you peep the guests and producers... probably one of the best lineups ever. You got the current crop of some of the undergrounds biggest stars and some of the best up coming artists, From Elzhi to Silent Knight and from Ayatollah to Analogic... mix in some Black Milk, M-Phazes, Buckwild, 9th Wonder, Talib Kweli, Royce Da 5'9"... the list is endless, I probably only mentioned about half! It's so refreshing to hear all this on one solid album and solid it is, from lyrics to beats, it will defnitely have you nodding in appreciating to how well this project came together. A special thanks has to go to DJ K.O., producer/A&R of Elementality Records and definitely has a bright future with his label if this is anything to go by. The only tiny little thing that got to me was that it only has 12 tracks and with all the talent on the album you can't help but wish there was more. If this was maybe stretched to 16-17 tracks, this would've been an unstoppable album, an instant classic, it still might just become that in a couple of years. For now, enjoy what is a superb release and solidifies the fact the real hip hop is here to stay!

Jean Grae may be the most talented female rapper at large. Her penchant for merciless, R-rated flow both explains her inability to paddle into the mainstream and seems to fuel much of the anger girding her style. Nevertheless, she shovels volumes of fun for those with an appreciation for pure skills and/or the stomach for lines like "I’ll stab you in the aortic valve with a 12-inch blade and f***in’ rub salve in it." Despite the fact that The Orchestral Files was originally released in 2007, this deluxe, double-disc re-issue packs the real punch. Its second disc, "The Definitive Collaboration Collection," collects 18 tracks featuring Grae and such hip-hop notables as Masta Ace, Prince Paul, Diverse, and Talib Kweli (the energizing, marimba-laden "Power, Money & Influence"). The take-you-to-school-style highlight is the Herbaliser’s "Nah'mean Nah'm Sayin" (from 2005’s Take London). Herb’s robust horn section splits in two, with the low brass driving the riff and the trumpets piercing the resultant groove with the same percussive angst that Grae has taken as her modus operandi since her last name change, at least. What’s more, fans who have been scouring CDs--from labels like Ninja Tune, M3, 7 Grand, Decon, Up Above, Nature Sounds, BBE, Copter, Third Earth Music, Razor & Tie, and Def Jux--just for their Jean Grae tracks can finally shuck the whole pile and make some new room on the shelf.

Immediately after the success of their debut album, Will Rap For Food, CunninLynguists added a new member in SOS to balance out the Emceeing duties on the record, in order for Kno to focus on production.
The result was Southernunderground, an instant classic that was amazingly recorded in just under 2 weeks.

Upon its release, long-standing music mags such as SPIN Magazine gave Southernunderground a well deserved A- in their review, while The Source magazine featured them in their 'OFF THE RADAR' column. Feautured as one of URB Magazine's 'NEXT 100', nearly every reviewer, site and trade publication sung its praises.
Still, what was most impressive about this sophomore album wasn't the plethora of favorable reviews - but the incredible amount of artistic growth shown over their already excellent debut, WRFF. Southernunderground exemplified the utmost level of lyrical and musical sophistication possible on an album. Already sounding like seasoned veterans along side Masta Ace on the RJD2-produced leadoff 12" single, "Seasons (f/ Masta Ace)", SU served as a true testament to their staying power and capability.

Songs like the anthemic "The South," push your wig back while the tributary "Appreciation (f/ Cashmere The PRO)," melt in your mind and resonate with poignancy. From the genre-flipping, drum & bass tale of insanity that is "Falling Down," to the cathartic examination of a love slowy dying on "Rain," the CunninLynguists hit so many thematic angles it will leave your head spinning.

With Deacon & SOS allowed to focus on the MC duties, they freely tackle an incredibly diverse range of topics - from hip-hop history to modern politics. Left to his craft, Kno makes immeasurable imrpovements over his first production effort. With his motto: "My interludes will son your 12" beat," he set forth to cement his place among the elite crop of new producers. And succeed he did.

Twenty-something Access Immortal has always been an enigma most fail to truly comprehend. His quiet demeanor has caused many to underestimate his skills as an MC. This album right here is a straight up banger, much better, in my opinion then the album he released last year, "American Me". Acc has a real smooth delivery and flows effortlessly over each track, back by some seriously dope beats and some big guest appearances from the likes of Wordsworth, Smiley Da Ghetto Child, Karniege & more, this is sure to be a classic in the near future, don't sleep!!!
