Kankick has made a name for himself in the West Coast hip-hop scene alongside fellow Oxnard natives Madlib and Oh No, crafted laidback, smoky instrumentals, occasionally releasing an album with guest spots ("From Artz Unknown").

"Beautiful: Opus of Love Deeper Than Flesh" continues Kankick's tradition of low-key loops and fuzzed-out jazziness. "Thursdays at the Good Life" rocks a lounge piano and background bells, "Black Women Candle Wax" uses a little static to augment the simple synth melody, and a river of bubbling crowd noise percolates under the mellow loop that powers "Continued Togetherness."

Piano figures heavy on "Beautiful," and some of Kankick's best work throughout the disc's 58 minutes is anchored on lilting, mid-range keywork ("NightTime Beauty," "Serenade the Outdoor Visitors," and what kind of sounds like an electric piano played in reverse on "OX Coming at Ya").

If you're looking to get your party started, "Opus of Love Deeper Than Flesh" might not be quite the right vehicle. But once the party's winding down, and you and your people are just settling in during the late night hours, it's the perfect accompaniment for slowly nodding your head and drifting into a daze on the couch.

Once again emcee/producer Esoteric stays on the sharpest side of the cutting edge of independent Hip Hop. With his recent genre-bending efforts such as Egoclapper, Esoteric vs. Gary Numan, Pterodactyl Takes Tokyo, absorbing death threats with the East Coast Avengers' Prison Planet and the birth of his first child, the Eso-Pterodactyl took some time off from the vocal booth to put together his first official instrumental opus. These are NOT beats used on other albums and lazily rounded up for a quick release to exploit fans, but rather all original production that takes the listener through a sound track that could have escaped from the Jack Kirby sketched pages of a silver age comic...hence the title and cover artwork...so once again, sit back, relax, and enjoy as Serve Or Suffer showcases Esoteric as one of the most prolific and revered producers/artists in the genre today.

Radio is not your average instrumental album. Exile did not want to just put beats on a record. He wanted everything to be unique and different, from the starting concept to the final message of Radio. Sampling vocals off the radio, Exile overcame the challenge and succeeded in creating a positive message on an instrumental album. As Exile says, "Good and evil are present on the radio. With this record I express love in contrast to evil. I did not want to put an album out showing only my talent… I needed to share with the listener what I have learned from my life. In this case, the radio."

Los Angeles based artist Aleksander "Exile" Manfredi is not the first in his family to create music. His father, Albert Trent Manfredi (R.I.P.) and grandfather Alberico Manfredii were both musicians. His father released some 45's in the 1960's that are now highly sought after. His grandfather not only taught music but also played in a diverse mix of bands ranging from Mariachi to traditional Italian music.

At an early age Exile was exposed to a wide variety of music. Living in his grandfather's garage, he learned to play the accordion. His father was experimenting with drugs at the time and was not around much. Exile moved with his mother and sister to a two bedroom, Section 8 apartment. With no money or car and barely enough food… paid for with welfare checks and food stamps, he sought refuge in music.

Exile's early exposure to Hip Hop grew into the desire to create the music he loved himself. At the age of 18, Exile met up with rapper, Aloe Blacc, 16 years old at the time. With a one-button sampler and a four track they formed Emanon and started making their own albums. Exile, then met 19 year old rapper Blu and together started work on his solo effort Dirty Science, featuring Slum Village, MED and Ghostface Killah. Together they also made the critically acclaimed classic, Blu and Exile's Below The Heavens.

After producing tracks for artists such as Mobb Deep, Jurassic 5, Akon and Snoop Dog; he continues to excel in the art of creating music with his first instrumental album entitled Radio. This is an album you can listen to from start to finish and expect to be taken on a ride each time. Let us spread the awareness, understanding and appreciation of Radio.

Apollo Brown
In Cleveland by way of Detroit City, i'm in my second childhood. I go by the moniker of Apollo Brown. I produce songs, not "beats". I'm not a fan of commercial music, can you even call it hip hop anymore? I love grittiness in my sound, a little static is even better, and I firmly believe that the starving artist is the best artist. Creating habitually good music for about 8 or 9 years now, I've seen alot, heard alot, met alot, and haven't been impressed with alot. It's just me and my ear, my ear and my music. I've produced for alot of cats who's names i'll leave blank for now but currently working on some Producer/Emcee collectives around the way in and outside of Detroit. I concentrate on making the type of sound that "I" like, the sound from my favorite era of hip hop, 1991-1996. In my 28 years of age, my mood changes, and I create whatever comes to mind. I don't have much to say so I speak through music that I call "wordless testimony". Whether grimy, hard, or feel good music, my shit is gonna speak to you. And 10 times out of 10, you're gonna wanna speak back in some way, shape, or form. Yeah, I guess it does sound cocky, but being that I'm my number one critic, I guess i'll hold the title as being my number one fan. I like to sample any and everything that grabs me. I like to chop, cut, and filter samples to make my own melodies. I hate "keyboard beats" with a passion! I make music to incite the scrunch face and the natural headknod motion, NO, I don't want you to dance. I make music to provoke the talented MC's thought process, not his woman's new 2 step. Everyone is so concentrated on money and material now days, they forgot about "movement". Take it how you will. What about good music? Substance? Talent and hard work? Back to "The Vintage Movement"!

Bio:
18 year old producer/emcee from Rochester, NY. Just trying to get my name known. I've been rhyming for about 7 years, Producing for 3. I've always tried to incorporate who I am as a person into my music, whether it be on the MPC or the mic. The honesty is my catch. So far, from putting out beat tapes and performing in Rochester and Philly, people are appreciating what I bring to the table.

Forbidden Fruit 1-2 (The H.E.R. Edition):
This is the second installment of the instrumental series "Forbidden Fruit".
Vol. 0-1 was released in May of 08'. it sold about 200 copies locally. But it was very unorganized and sloppy. Hopefully this album is much better received and appreciated.
I like to let the listener decide, but if I had to describe the sound of this project...
It's a fresh blend of soul, jazz and hip-hop. I try to keep my drums as dirty as possible, I try to chop like nobody else is doing it, and it's very important to me that the sound is always very emotional and meaningful.

Peace Everyone,

My good friend and producer extraordinaire, Khrysis from the Justice League, and myself have done a mix tape project called “Khrysis On The Board With The Heat 2″ over the summer (the first installment was done by Mick Boogie). Basically, it is a collection of all his production that he has done in the last year in a half. If you’re not familiar with Khrysis’ work, he has done production for LIttle Brother, Sean Price, Heltah Skeltah, Evidence of Dilated Peoples (check out “The Layover”), & his own group The Away Team, just to name a few. Check out his credentials: www.myspace.com/khrysisbeats.

So think of this as a “Beat CD done in a mix tape format”, freaked “Beat Junkie Style” by yours truly.

We originally wanted to press this up, but unfortunately we never had a chance to, so we decided to leak it free to everyone for the Holidays as well as providing some material for people for the meantime while we both are working on our prospective projects. So please spread the word, share it with your peoples, post it up on your blogs, whatever you wanna do….we hope that you will enjoy this mix and we appreciate the love as well.

Khrysis and myself will probably work on another mix in the near future when he is ready to drop his solo debut album, but for the meantime…enjoy. Happy Holidays people…see you in 2009.
