Never heard of these guys? You may recognize them as 4 of the 13 MC's on the L.O.N.S posse-cut, "Spontaneous." This crew bares a striking, but grittier resembalance to the Leaders of the New School.

It's one of those NY albums that showed up and then dissapeared...and nobody seemed to notice. However, the album is decent. There's nothing that really stands out on this LP, but overall the sound is pure gritty, early 90's NY, so any fan of that will appreciate this.

"Fully two years in the making, the P Brothers finally release their highly anticipated first LP. Unlike previous attempts at trans-Atlantic collaborations by other producers, 'The Gas' is no "rent-any-rapper" affair. Widely known for their uncompromising high standards in producing authentic - but never retro - hip hop music, the P Brothers also make no secret that they are choosy with whom they collaborate. 'The Gas' is no exception, marrying timeless and complex sample-based production and trademark superheavyweight beats with the true cream of New York MCs, such as Boss Money, Milano, Res Connected, Roc Marciano, Smiley, and Samhill.

Singapore Kane is a rapid rising rap star in his native city of Boston, Massachusetts. Being born of Jamaican decent to his mother Faith and Legendary Boston reggae artist Danny Tucker, Singapore was introduced to the sounds and rythym of music at an early age. Kane started his quest to become a force in the hip-hop industry in the fourth grade, discovering his ability to write clever poems, limericks and haiku's. Over time, Singapore has laid many of his competitors in the dust, hence his name Singapore Kane, derived through the lyrical bashing of his opponents during freestyle battles.

Singa is most known for his ability to conjure up vivid imagery with his lyrics. Whether spitting on topics regarding the streets or world politics, his rhymes leave you with plenty to envision and contemplate . Singa explains it best, "You don't hear my lyrics, you see em." He is a dedicated advocate for inner city youth voicing their concerns and struggles on many of his tracks. Self-described as a "Street Journalist & Observer," Singapore represents his home-town of Mattapan and the controversies that surround him.

Hailing from the streets of Uptown Manhattan. He is no stranger to battles or ciphers, Milano made his name known in D&D studios by shooting off lyrical artillery head to head with the legendary Big Punisher. This ultimately landed him his classic duet with Big Pun called “Where Ya At?” as well as with Cuban Linx & O.C. on “Hey Luv”, both featured on DITC’s album “Worldwide”. Soon after, Milano dropped his first 12″ single “Deal With A Feeling” backed by the warrior driven B-Side “Rep For The Slums”. Milano has been featured on numerous street mix tapes, not to mention his appearances on Hip Hop radio shows like the Half Time Radio Show & Stretch Armstrong show on NYC’s Hot 97. In 2008, Milano plans to follow in the footsteps of lyrical giants such as Rakim, Nas, Big Pun, with his forthcoming album release on Affluent Records. With production from T-Ray, Showbiz, Will Tell, Agallah, Chaze and more… “Sidewalk Stories” the album will bring Hip-Hop back to the essence!

Denmark. Home of quality hip-hop for decades already, this country is all too quickly overlooked. From a small town comes this duo that goes back like carseats. Since 93, these two have been honing their skills, doing live shows and DJ competitions and last year they’ve finally dropped their first legit album.

Wherever you’ll read about these two, you won’t be able to find an article that doesn’t attempt to describe their sound with the term “boom-bap” (aw shucks, I fell for it too…), but let me just say they embody the old school spirit of the big sounds, the thumping bass, the live atmosphere, the love for the artform, and, in real old school fashion, the DJ is the center of attention. And rightly so: Static crafts incredible tracks packed with vocal cut after scratch after vocal cut etc. putting every bedroom DJ to shame. And Nat Ill does what an MC was originally meant to do: he praises his DJ, which is easy to do in his case.

This is an album that doesn’t so much pretend to ooze philosophical wisdom, but it sure as hell packs a lot of heat and energy. The two get some help from Promoe (Sweden), Pacewon, Last Emperor, Slug, Blueprint (US) and Abdominal (Can) on the mic, and they have DJ Shine and DJ Noize (both Denmark) murdering the DJ track on the album.

There was a superfluity of hardcore-for-hardcore's-sake in the rap world of the 2000s, and more often than not it came across as tired. One notable exception is HELL'S WINTER, the 2005 Definitive Jux debut by hip-hop upstart Cage. Everything from Cage's agro drawl to his personally and politically incisive lyrics to his beats (courtesy of several high-profile Def Jux members, including RJD2 and El-P) says that he means business.

Cage documents the traumas of his upbringing and the intensity of his adult life with vivid and compelling verbal skill. Whether laying down disconcertingly honest confessionals about his family ("Stripes") or weighing in viciously against the Bush administration ("Grand Ol Party Crash," which features beats by DJ Shadow and a cameo by punk icon Jello Biafra as George W.), Cage takes aim and doesn't let up. While the emotional and sonic relentlessness of HELL'S WINTER might be a lot to swallow in one sitting, the album proves rewarding with repeated listens.
