During 2006 Sean Boog, Khrysis and Nervous Reck (Bomm Sheltuh) recorded a slew of songs and put together an album called The Warm Up (shout out to the homie J Cole). Originally we were going to release it before we even recorded Training Day … but with out going into detail we ended up doing Training Day. At a time when chasing money supersedes chasing dreams, Detroit's Finale has proudly done the opposite. A former automotive engineer for the Big Three, the Morehouse drop-out decided that he would devote five years to his passion of hip-hop before deciding what his life's calling would truly be.

"That was seven years ago," jokes Finale. With rich histories in both the auto industry and music, he opted for the latter, perhaps a bit more stable in these times. "I wanted things to happen naturally," says the emcee. In his community, open microphones, showcases and emcee battles prompted Finale to mingle with local talents like One.Be.Lo and Guilty Simpson, while winning the respect of producers including Black Milk, Nottz and the immortal J Dilla. The career and personal sacrifice of Finale is captured on A Pipedream And A Promise, featuring the producers mentioned.

The official music video for Rapper Big Pooh's single "The Comeback", from his upcoming LP Delightful Bars coming soon.
Wednesday, March 25, 2009 | Posted in ,,,,,

Big Pooh’s Delightful Bars Will Be Available In Four Different Versions And Features Guest Appearances By Jay Rock, Justus League, E-Ness, Muhsinah and Production From Khrysis, Jake One, Illmind, 9th Wonder, Young RJ, The Co-Op and OhNo

As one half of the critically acclaimed duo Little Brother, Big Pooh has toured the globe and back, dropped three critically acclaimed LP’s (2003’s The Listening, 2005’s The Minstrel Show and 2007’s Getback), numerous classic mixtapes, his own solo-LP (2005’s Sleepers) and worked with some of the biggest and most respected names in the industry—Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Pete Rock, Consequence, Big Daddy Kane, Buckshot, 9th Wonder, MURS, Mos Def, Bun B, Kurupt, Nottz, Rhymefest, Talib Kweli, Cormega, Kardinal Offishal, Hi-Tek (among others).

Big Pooh’s latest vehicle is a street-LP entitled, Delightful Bars, and there will be four different versions of Delightful Bars made accessible, including a special iTunes only version (referred to as the Candy Apple version), which will be released on 3-24-09 and the North American retail version of Delightful Bars (referred to as the North American Pie Version) will be released on 5-5-09.

Delightful Bars lead-single is the Khrysis produced “The Comeback” and its accompanied by the OhNo produced B-Side “Radio” and is further bolstered by guest spots from Pooh’s Justus League cohorts (Chaundon, Joe Scudda, Jozeemo, Big Dho & Darien Brockington) Jay Rock, Torae and production from Khrysis, 9th Wonder, Jake One, Illmind, Young RJ, The Co-Op and OhNo.

For Pooh, what he initially planned to be a mixtape took on a new life after a few particularly productive studio sessions as he affirms “this is some of my best work to date as a solo artist. I started off recording for a mixtape, but I had a plethora of material that deserved a presentation much larger than a mixtape. Delightful Bars was born from the Dirty Pretty Things, Rapper’s Delight, and The Recipe recording sessions. The fans will find that this project serves as the perfect bridge between Sleepers and my upcoming sophomore solo album Dirty Pretty Things.

"The Layover" idea came about while I was on tour with Little Brother last year. It was supposed to be a side project that Khrysis and I were going to do - him on the beats me on the mic, 5 songs, free download. I strayed from the "side project" idea and moved towards making,"The Layover" an Official EP. Pete Rock & CL Smooth's All Souled Out or Ice Cube's Kill At Will are big inspirations and examples of EP's that were really quality & served as the perfect vehicle to make me get the next album to drop shortly there after. This is my intention with The Layover EP. It was important to me that even though Khrysis and I didn't do the whole project together he still be a major part of it, and he gladly accepted. This is THE FIRST banger off of my upcoming EP - "THE LAYOVER" title track. Khrysis on the boards with the heat, Dj Revolution On the Cut, and me on the mic, painting a picture about my best friend, FREK ONE who I lost in 1993. This is really taking my career WORLDWIDE, and some classic E-V Word Play to get this project kicked off on the right note! So much more to come...Stay Tuned!"

Peace Everyone,

My good friend and producer extraordinaire, Khrysis from the Justice League, and myself have done a mix tape project called “Khrysis On The Board With The Heat 2″ over the summer (the first installment was done by Mick Boogie). Basically, it is a collection of all his production that he has done in the last year in a half. If you’re not familiar with Khrysis’ work, he has done production for LIttle Brother, Sean Price, Heltah Skeltah, Evidence of Dilated Peoples (check out “The Layover”), & his own group The Away Team, just to name a few. Check out his credentials: www.myspace.com/khrysisbeats.

So think of this as a “Beat CD done in a mix tape format”, freaked “Beat Junkie Style” by yours truly.

We originally wanted to press this up, but unfortunately we never had a chance to, so we decided to leak it free to everyone for the Holidays as well as providing some material for people for the meantime while we both are working on our prospective projects. So please spread the word, share it with your peoples, post it up on your blogs, whatever you wanna do….we hope that you will enjoy this mix and we appreciate the love as well.

Khrysis and myself will probably work on another mix in the near future when he is ready to drop his solo debut album, but for the meantime…enjoy. Happy Holidays people…see you in 2009.

In 2001, Starr joined the Low Budget Crew, which also included D.C. locals Oddisee, Kev Brown, Critically Acclaimed, and Cy Young[1]. His connection with producer Oddisee landed him a deal with New York-based indie label Halftooth Records, which released his debut single, "If", featuring Talib Kweli and Asheru, in early 2004. "If" and its B-side, "Walk the Walk", were included on the Halftooth Records compilation You Don't Know the Half. The single led to a number of guest appearances including The Foreign Exchange's "The Answer", Wordsworth's "Head High", and Symbolyc One and Illmind's "Guilty Pleasures".

In June 2006, Starr released The Starr Report, a mixtape featuring most of his unreleased guest appearances on albums by the likes of Supastition, Cesar Comanche, The Foreign Exchange, and Kev Brown; followed by the single "Against the Grain". On August 29, Starr's debut album, Starr Status, was released, featuring production from Illmind, Khrysis, Kev Brown, Oddisee, DJ Roddy Rod and M-Phazes. Album guests included Kev Brown, Starr's Isaac Jones partner Sean Born, Supastition, Median, Talib Kweli and Asheru.

Starr Status garnered the rapper attention from magazines including Scratch, The Source, and JIVE, who called Starr "one of the best MCs in the game"

True to life talent, original lyrics, and soulful production represent the heart of the long awaited album from Justus League member Edgar Allen Floe, The Streetwise LP. A hard hitting, thought provoking soundscape, the album demands long time fans stay familiar with the repeat button, while provoking new listeners to give their undivided attention. The Streetwise LP is music for the adult contemporary Hip Hop fan, delivering neck snapping production and thought provoking emceeing that come together to create feel good music. The album takes the listener back to when Hip Hop was about having fun, while at the same time having something to say. Tracks such as "Shine" encourage listeners to follow their dreams and aspirations and "I See It All" is the most in-depth track on the album, describing daily life that gets taken for granted far too easily. "Slick Talk" is one of the most energetic tracks, full of the "slickest" braggadocio wordplay. The Streetwise LP will help ground the current landscape of Rap music giving you the feeling that all is not lost. If advanced lyrics and heartfelt production are what you're looking for, then you've found it.

The New Jersey native known as DJ K.O. (Keenan Ormsby) has teamed up with Shaman Work Recordings to release the best hip-hop compilation to come out in years.

Picture This... matches a seemingly endless roster of hip-hop's hottest MC's with an equally impressive group of producers. The result is a tribute to hip-hop's past, present, and future.

Veterans like Diamond D, OC, Masta Ace, and Edo G bring back the past, while lyricists like Talib Kweli, Elzhi (Slum Village), Phonte (Little Brother) and Royce da 5'9" represent today's hottest performers, and newbies like Skyzoo, Kaze, Supastition, Silent Knight and Tiffany Paige set the bar for what's to come. Featuring tracks produced by Black Milk, Buckwild Analogic, 9th Wonder and M-Phazes (to name a few) the album definitely has something for everyone.

The man behind this masterpiece is DJ K.O., who kept one thing on his mind when creating the line up: "I approached this as a hip-hop a fan, he says. "I thought about my own ideal collaborations and took it from there."

K.O. used his connections from the college radio show he hosted at Rutgers, along with spinning and promoting parties in NYC to get the ball rolling. In 2004, he formed Elementality Productions. It wasn't long until K.O. shared his vision with John Robinson, (member of What's The Science? and President of Shaman Work Recordings). Three years later, the finished product exceeds even K.O.'s expectations.

"Most of the songs are good, old-fashioned hip-hop," he explains. "There's a raw, angry gutter sound mixed with more smooth, soulful tracks."

With Picture This... hitting stores in September, KO's eyes are already set on the future. "I'm a lot more focused on the behind-the-scenes stuff than dee-jaying", he says. "The aspects of A&R, management, and executive producing are most appealing to me."

He also hopes to continue to provide a platform for new performers to be heard on a large scale.

"Nowadays, it's so hard to break an artist", he says. "I knew there were so many dope artists who just needed a chance to be heard."

FILI-
One of the best compilations released this decade!!! You can't help but jump out your seat when you peep the guests and producers... probably one of the best lineups ever. You got the current crop of some of the undergrounds biggest stars and some of the best up coming artists, From Elzhi to Silent Knight and from Ayatollah to Analogic... mix in some Black Milk, M-Phazes, Buckwild, 9th Wonder, Talib Kweli, Royce Da 5'9"... the list is endless, I probably only mentioned about half! It's so refreshing to hear all this on one solid album and solid it is, from lyrics to beats, it will defnitely have you nodding in appreciating to how well this project came together. A special thanks has to go to DJ K.O., producer/A&R of Elementality Records and definitely has a bright future with his label if this is anything to go by. The only tiny little thing that got to me was that it only has 12 tracks and with all the talent on the album you can't help but wish there was more. If this was maybe stretched to 16-17 tracks, this would've been an unstoppable album, an instant classic, it still might just become that in a couple of years. For now, enjoy what is a superb release and solidifies the fact the real hip hop is here to stay!
