Along with two classic LPs and an EP on Definitive Jux, C-Rayz has released over 25 singles and six full-length albums on his own label, SunCycleEnt.

He is an emcee that has been victimized by the hyper-masculine know-it-all braggadocio attitude of music critics. The topics he discusses, or perhaps the manner in which he discusses them, are so far above the heads of most people that they can’t even begin to understand what he is saying.

The newest release from the poetic mastermind, titled “Chorus Rhyme,” is no different. C-Rayz and Parallel Thought challenge traditional concepts of chorus, even leaving the hook out of some songs altogether. There are no R&B cats singing hooks. No breaks or pauses. Just dope beats and lyrics from start to finish.

In hip-hop, the chorus is often considered a necessary evil. Those who are at the forefront of selling the music stress the role of choruses as those bars that anchor the song in the listener's head. Some even argue that writing choruses is an art in itself, and that many advanced writers fail at coming up with memorable hooks, while less talented ones time and again prove their knack for catchy choruses. Considering its importance for radio and club play, to go without a hook in a rap song is a silent protest against commercial demands.
