THE LET GO is a hip hop group comprised of two emcees, Type and Kublakai, and one producer, Captain Midnite. All members were born and raised in Seattle, WA, where they all currently reside. The combination of their talents came together naturally for the three friends and each member has something distinctively unique they bring to the group: Type is known for his satirical content and smash mouth punchlines, Kublakai made a name for himself by having catchy hooks and genuine style, while Captain Midnite brings the art of true composition back to boom bap hip hop, with crackin drums and bold sample chops in a beat bound to have at least three change-ups before the tracks ends.

Louis Logic debuted with 2003's Sin-A-Matic, an underground hit that introduced the Philadelphia rapper to a wider audience. The follow-up, Misery Loves Comedy, gives co-credit to producer J.J. Brown, a wise move because Brown's inventive, varied settings are the album's most consistently entertaining feature. Vintage old-school soul samples and jazzy minor-key instrumental themes are Brown's primary stock in trade, but the producer cleverly integrates unexpected sound effects in between without crossing over into show-offy gimmickry. (In particular, the opening of "Up to No Good," balancing Stereolab-like vintage synth washes with a deep soul guitar line and wordless male/female vocals, is simply outstanding.) Over all of this, Logic's raps tend to focus on his experiences with women, and as the title indicates, the news isn't good. However, instead of the usual bitches-and-hos misogyny, Logic gamely accepts his own shortcomings on songs like "All Girls Cheat" and "A Perfect Circle," even as other tracks feature more typical sly braggadocio along the lines of "Classy McNasty." The album's centerpiece track, "The Withdrawal Method," is the best of the bunch lyrically, a clear-eyed examination of a relationship's end that sounds like Nick Hornby could have written it. Funny, sharp, and surprisingly honest, Misery Loves Comedy is a big lyrical step up from Logic's earlier, more broadly comic records.

The Odd Couple was formed. In 2001, The Odd Couple released “Pimp Shit” b/w “Por QuĂ©” on Solid Records/Golden Apple Records. The record was an immediate success and spawned the notion of putting together a complete album. Due to financial stress and other delays, the album took nearly three years to complete. These unfortunate events sent Jay Love below the radar.

Every once in a while an emcee comes out of nowhere and releases a mind-blowing modern hip-hop classic debut album that is filled with intelligence, insanity, sharp wit, and a balance of solid beats and tight rhymes. Louis Logic has been making some minor noise in the underground circuit for some time now. His association with Apathy and The Demigodz gave him some shine but only now is he getting the recognition he deserves.

He hooked up with Solid Records and released his debut solo album “Sin-A-Matic”. Produced by J.J. Brown, Memo Of The Molemen, The Avid Record Collector and others, “Sin-A-Matic” is unlike any other hip-hop album out today while it has that classic hip-hop feel at the same time. Lyrically, Louis Logic is a wild man. While some people compare him to Eminem due to his dark humor, hard punch lines, and sharp wit, Louis Logic is truly a unique emcee. While Eminem rhymes about doing drugs, Louis Logic is an unashamed alcoholic. He can drink almost anyone under the table. His friend, Vinnie from Jedi Mind Tricks dubbed him “The Dragon” or “The Drunken Dragon”. Even with tons of alcohol in his system, Louis Logic pumped out an album with songs that were both funny, poignant, intelligent, and devilishly clever. “The Ugly Truth” is a perfect example of a deliciously wicked Louis Logic track. Each verse explores the hatred of different religions, cultures, and races. Stereotypes and hateful (yet hilarious) remarks are made against Black people, gays, Asians, and more. Then, at the end of the song, the listener is shocked to hear that the narrator is actually George Bush. Many of the songs on “Sin-A-Matic” have this intense, hardcore wit.

Louis Logic finds the humor in the ugly. From freaking out on “Postal” to betrayal on “Best Friends” to retribution on “Revenge!” and sex and women on “Coochie Coup”, “Idiot Gear”, and “The Rest”, Louis Logic tackles both new and old themes in a completely fresh and exciting way. While known for his clever punch lines, Logic crafted his skill on telling exciting stories and rhyming in new and different ways. As an emcee, he is versatile, unique, and hungry. Fueled by tons of alcohol, he gets help from other emcees like Celph Titled and Apathy.

The album does have the cinematic quality where you can listen to the entire LP in one sitting. Louis Logic is more than just an emcee. He also writes for Elemental Magazine. On a hot evening in August 2003, Louis Logic and I sat down and had an in-depth conversation about alcohol, sex, women, hip-hop, racism, music business, and life in general. So, Delve into you dark side, explore your sins, crack open the beers, and let The Drunken Dragon roar.

Coming straight out of the Philadelphia/Penn State University rap scene, Louis Logic made his first significant splash on wax on the Jedi Mind Tricks' Wu-Tang-worthy "Trinity" (off the group's 2000 album Violent By Design), and it is just one of the many highlights on Music to Drink By. A semi-authorized CD-ROM nominally released on Superegular, it's really more of a sanctioned bootleg put out over the Internet by Logic himself in order to round up a grab-bag of independent 12" singles, B-sides, and the odd unreleased track (or, per the subtitle, "a collection of loosies & a few new exclusives") recorded between 1998 and 2000; most of which were available already on white-label vinyl. It is a minor godsend, however, to have all the music accessible on a single disc. The material is of an almost unanimously strong quality. When Logic isn't busy playing cock-of-the-block ("Loud Mouth," one of the underground buzz-singles of the first half of 2000), he is rocking a particularly articulate and playful strain of punchline-glutted throwback battle rhyme ("General Principle," with its irresistibly sticky, bottom-heavy, old-school J. Brown groove and whiplash verbal tradeoff with J-Treds); the grimy, viscous "Planet Rock," (on which he tosses the lyrical ball back and forth with one of his partners in the Demigodz, L Fudge). As amazing as Logic's wordplay is throughout, though, the production deserves special mention, with particular nods to Demigodz catalyst Celph Titled (for instance, the nifty, streetwise noir of "Secret Agent") and J.J. Brown, certainly one of the hip-hop underground's best-kept secrets (check the sleek, smoothed-out "Factotum," with its buttery flamenco guitar -- Logic once said in an interview that it would be the only recording to survive whenever the time came to put out his official debut). Despite a couple hollow spots, Music to Drink By is much more than a bet hedged against future albums; it is, in fact, one of the most entertaining indie rap full-lengths -- entirely legitimate or not -- of the year.

In early 2002, the Demigodz underground supergroup, then consisting of Apathy, Celph Titled, Esoteric, Louis Logic, Rise, L-Fudge, Open Mic and many other skilled MC's went on to release a classic EP with Los Angeles-based Ill Boogie Records entitled "The Godz Must Be Crazy." The release was one of the most popular of that year within the independent hip hop genre, due to its large line-up of star power and strong buzz for frontmen Apathy & Celph Titled. Shortly after its release, the label went under and the CD quickly became out of print and hard to find, despite the high demand. Demigodz Entertainment in association with Endless Recordings now brings you this classic EP as a massive 2-disc remastered Deluxe Edition, featuring 6 unreleased songs recorded in the same sessions intended for the Demigodz full length at that time. In addition to the 6 bonus songs, the 2nd disc contains full instrumentals to all the songs from the original EP as well as the new bonus tracks. This double disc release also showcases brand new original artwork in limited edition form. "The Godz Must Be Crazier" is a classic piece of underground hip hop capturing an early era of an indie goldmine, making this a necessary purchase for heads across the board.
