"The third music video (dir. Mr. Complex) off Invincible's acclaimed ShapeShifters LP (2008), "Ropes" addresses the often taboo subject of depression and suicide.

After being accepted by mtvU, the station's standards department axed the video citing how its "suicidal undertones would be problematic" for a college audience. Ironically, Invincible and Tiombe's intention with the song is to speak openly and boldly about the prevalence of depression in our communities. With suicide being the third leading cause of death amongh 15-24 year-olds, "Ropes" aims to break the pattern of turning a blind eye to metal health issues, and to begin the process of healing.

"Ropes" was shot at Coney Island's Astroland on a cold, dreary and rainy day. Rumor has it that historic Astroland will soon be razed to the ground and developed into unaffordable lofts or condos, so this footage is visual preservation as well. "

From the depths of creativity emerge two of Cali’s finest emcees, who naturally seem to demolish the preconception that lyrical delivery should reflect demographics. ProlifiCal group members Praduct and Drypht Avenue, aren’t your average West Coast rappers, but rather, pure lyricists. With the release of their highly anticipated debut album nearing, Domination Recordings now presents their free downloadable EP entitled “Lyricist Parlae”.

This six track promo is a captivating glimpse into the unique style of rhyming ProlifiCal is known for. An impressive lineup of appearances include Bay Area emcee Mikial on the track praising Hip Hop as a true artform rightfully named “Cold Art”, and Oddisee from Low Budget on the melodic joint entitled “Aroma Therapy.” The EP also contains a continuous play bonus track called “Rainy Days” that features Domination’s very own Hempstead, New York duo, Tha Connection.

The attention demanding voices of both Praduct and Drypht Ave. combined with dope lyrics and an ill blend of production, makes this release a definate entertaining experience of raw talent at its best.

So, as this EP parlaes into ProlifiCal’s conceptual album “Train Of Thought”, due for release in the coming weeks, we invite you to support and solidify your appreciation for good music, and enjoy the listening…

When super producer J Dilla passed away in 2006, few could claim they felt the loss more than Madlib. He and Dilla had come together to present one of the most critically claimed albums of 2003, Champion Sound, and were planning on coming together again to continue to bring jaw-dropping soundscapes to the masses for years to come. It wasn't meant to be. Since the loss of J-Dilla, Jaylib's other half has continued pushing his beat factory to its limits, interweaving solo projects dedicated to or predicated by Dilla's spirit in with EPs and albums highlighting some of today's most underrated lyricists and singers. Madlib is the textbook definition of a "über-producer", one who raises the bar consistently in quality and quantity, leaving a legacy few (besides his partner J-Dilla) could even come close to touching. But, as Roger Guenver Smith said as he portrayed Huey P. Newton in the critically-acclaimed A Huey P. Newton Story, "Everyone wants to bring you flowers when you die, no one gives you a bowl of soup to help keep you alive." It is in this context, Dub MD and Cyrano would like to present a "bowl of soup" to Madlib entitled Madicinal Libationz.

Cyrano's horizons are set even higher for 2009 as he attempts to add to his ever-growing, Madlib-esque catalog, including releasing 3 albums, Back 2 Lyfe (produced by Centric for Free At Last Music Group) and Soul Train Dancer: A Tribute To Rosie Perez (produced by JSLIKK for Backpackers Anonymous Music Group) along with SOBEIT (produced by Kid Hum for House Of Waxx Recordings) Also, be on the lookout as the RockTheDub website will be releasing a mixtape with Cy Yung entitled The Bleu Bayou Project. In addition to all that Dub MD with be connecting once again with Detroit emcee Nametag for Classic Cadence Vol. 2 and once again with the diabolical genius that is Illmind for Blaps, Rhymes & Life Vol. 3 in the next couple of months, stay tuned!

Here in Boston, virtually every serious Hip Hop show is orchestrated by rap promoter Leedz of Leedz Edutainment who, unlike the vast majority of cats in his profession who throw parties for the props, actually makes a living pushing live music. "Smoke N Mirrors" also features tracks with Snoop Dogg, Buckshot, Kurupt, Too Short, Sen Dog, of Cypress Hill, & Young De.

Mask-wearing hip-hop maverick DOOM (previously MF Doom) unveils his imminent new album, BORN LIKE THIS – a tour de force of thrillingly intricate and diabolically original songwriting. The enclosed sampler has been personally compiled by DOOM And showcases his most accomplished, definitive record yet and first full-length solo offering for over four years.

As well as head-spinningly complex, reference-rich rhymes, DOOM also provides the majority of the peerless production himself with just 2 tracks here featuring the studio skills of others. Credit for crafting the bounciest of beats on short yet sweet BALLSKIN goes to Washington’s Jake One, whilst the much-missed J Dilla’s magical psychedelic jamboree illuminates LIGHTWORKS. Guest vocalists include founding Wu Tang Clan members Ghostface and Raekwon, with the former appropriately appearing in his cartoon-inspired Tony Starks guise. BORN LIKE THIS takes its title from Charles Bukowski’s dystopian poem, ‘Dinosauria, We’, read by its author and re-scored by DOOM on CELLZ. Sharp-eared followers of the interesting end of hip-hop may recognize some of the album’s lineage – the instrumental of LIGHTWORKS is a highlight of J Dilla’s Donuts and an early demo of ANGELZ has circulated in cyberspace – however, the rest of the newborn record’s 16 tracks are 100% fresh and, until now, unheard.

DOOM’s previous solo adventures and escapades include output as alternative alter egos ‘King Geedorah’– a three-headed monster from outer-space – and ‘Viktor Vaughan’ – a DOOM spin-off who exists in a technologically advanced parallel dimension – as well as collaborative albums with Madlib (as ‘Madvillian’), Danger Mouse (‘DangerDOOM’), and a cameo on Gorillaz Demon Days opus.
