Domingo is a producer from east NY that has crafted bangers for your favorite east coast emcees but gets no shine for whatever reason. On this release, the aptly titled The Most Underrated, Domingo provides vintage east coast boom bap for legends, vets, and necomers alike to get busy on. The results do vary, but the production end is solid. Names like Big Daddy Kane, Ras Kass, Canibus, Kool G. Rap,The Beatnuts, Tonedeff, Slug, Immortal Technique, Non Phixion, and Brother Ali show up to bless the tracks lovely. The end result is forty six minutes of dope hip hop music that's full of the grimy, boom bap sound reminiscent of '95.

16. Easy Now featuring Tonedeff
17. Fuck You Mean featuring PackFM, Slug and Brother Ali

FILI-
This was a quiet one when it dropped last year, why? I got no idea because this album is bangin'!!! From the old skool mc's to the new skool, you got a bit of everything on here and you can't really go wrong when you got East Coast vet Domingo lacing the tracks with some good ol' fashioned throwback sounds. This was one of the most slept on albums by one of the most underrated producers in the game so do yourself a favor, download, enjoy and bump that shit loud! One more little thing, the last 2 tracks for me are my absolute favourites. Tonedeff is a legend and does a great narration over a latin tinged beat for Easy Now and the same can be said for the underground powerhouses of Rhymesayers labelmates Slug & Brother Ali and also QN5's punchline king PackFM, who absolutely murder the last track Fuck You Mean.

DJ JS-1 and Dub-L have been releasing successful break records and 12" singles for a while now, but this is their first major, full length CD. The album boasts an incredible line-up of new and veteran MC’s from all over the country.

Very rarely does one come across such a thorough cast on one album. The album is receiving excellent reviews and write-ups and is being considered an underground classic already. Songs such as "Essentials" featuring KRS-ONE and Rahzel have already sold well over 10,000 copies on 12" vinyl. They have never been released on CD until now!

Cunninlynguists first dropped "Will Rap for Food" to little fanfare. Unless you're from Kentucky, Cunninlynguists probably wasn't on your radar at that point. That album, over time, really started to generate a fan base. DJ Kno really came thru with the production and Deacon just has that infatuating southern drawl to his flow. That album was thankfully reissued this year for all those who slept the first time around. Kno and Deacon went on to drop their sophomore album "Southernunderground" on Fresh Chest Records to solid reviews. God, they should have flowed on that "War" beat. Cunninlynguists now comes at you with the all-new studio album "A Piece of Strange" after doing the solo thing with Mr. SOS and dropping a few mix tapes in between. You might have heard "Caved In" with Cee-lo as it was available in honor of Katrina Victims. These guys just keep getting better, with DJ Kno set to drop a full length production album pretty soon they show no signs of slowing down either.

01. Where Will You Be?
02. Since When?
03. Nothing To Give
04. Caved In (Feat. Cee-Lo Green)
05. Hourglass
06. Beautiful Girl
07. Inhale (Interlude)
08. Brain Cell
09. America Loves Gangsters (Feat. Tim Means)
10. Never Know Why (Feat. Immortal Technique)
11. The Gates (Feat. Tonedeff)
12. Damnation (Interlude)
13. Hellfire
14. Remember Me (Abstract Reality)
15. What'll You Do?
16. The Light (Feat. Club Dub)

*a-FILI-ated*
Another standout album from the Lynguists. Very different from their first two as this has a lot more deeper lyrics and is basically a concept album. Do not sleep, nice cover to!!

Immediately after the success of their debut album, Will Rap For Food, CunninLynguists added a new member in SOS to balance out the Emceeing duties on the record, in order for Kno to focus on production.
The result was Southernunderground, an instant classic that was amazingly recorded in just under 2 weeks.

Upon its release, long-standing music mags such as SPIN Magazine gave Southernunderground a well deserved A- in their review, while The Source magazine featured them in their 'OFF THE RADAR' column. Feautured as one of URB Magazine's 'NEXT 100', nearly every reviewer, site and trade publication sung its praises.
Still, what was most impressive about this sophomore album wasn't the plethora of favorable reviews - but the incredible amount of artistic growth shown over their already excellent debut, WRFF. Southernunderground exemplified the utmost level of lyrical and musical sophistication possible on an album. Already sounding like seasoned veterans along side Masta Ace on the RJD2-produced leadoff 12" single, "Seasons (f/ Masta Ace)", SU served as a true testament to their staying power and capability.

Songs like the anthemic "The South," push your wig back while the tributary "Appreciation (f/ Cashmere The PRO)," melt in your mind and resonate with poignancy. From the genre-flipping, drum & bass tale of insanity that is "Falling Down," to the cathartic examination of a love slowy dying on "Rain," the CunninLynguists hit so many thematic angles it will leave your head spinning.

With Deacon & SOS allowed to focus on the MC duties, they freely tackle an incredibly diverse range of topics - from hip-hop history to modern politics. Left to his craft, Kno makes immeasurable imrpovements over his first production effort. With his motto: "My interludes will son your 12" beat," he set forth to cement his place among the elite crop of new producers. And succeed he did.

Southernunderground is a MUST-HAVE for any hip-hop fan, and is THE best hip-hop album of 2003 bar none.

CunninLynguists entire catalogue is a must have not only for rap heads, but for all true music fans. As a rap head that grew up in the early and mid 90s when rap was innovative in expressing deep thought and the feelings of a generation, CunninLynguists are a breath of fresh air in a depressingly stale genre (mainstream). Everything they put out is intricately constructed with an attention to detail in lyrics, production, and flow. You can bang the albums straight through without any real skips.

Kno does all the production (and raps) for CunninLynguists and he really sets the tone for all the albums with top notch and versatile production. Like all great rap and production combinations (Guru and Premier, Stoupe and Vinny Paz, Talib and Hi-Tek) CunninLynguists lyrics and production mesh seamlessly to create true bangers. The production enhances the lyrics and vice versa to build songs that you feel more the more you listen to them. Please STOP SLEEPIN on these guys and cop this and all their other classics. You will not be disappointed...

Tonedeff Bio:
He's won a string of distinguished battles, though he's far from just a battle rapper. He's garnered a rep for his signature, rapid-fire delivery, yet he's considerably more than just a fast rapper. He sings and produces-though not quite a singer nor producer-and is the founder of QN5 Music, though you wouldn't just call him a label head. He's the artist you can't quite categorize.

Perhaps most impressive is that he does all of these things, and well. With a background as colorful as his talents, Tonedeff grew up in Chicago, IL, before moving to Miami, FL, for the remainder of his adolescence. While it was in Miami that he began recording and performing, it wasn't until relocating to Queens, NY at 21 that the well-traveled emcee really began making noise. He won a string of battles, including the Braggin' Rites MC Battle and NYC's notorious Da Cypha battles, to name a few. At the same time, he built a name for himself by opening for esteemed acts such as the Common, Royce Da 5'9, Blackalicious, Beatnuts, Brand Nubian and Rahzel.

Where most up-and-comers hit a stalemate, however, Tonedeff had only just begun. After forming the independent label QN5 Music in 2000, he released a series of work including the enhanced Hyphen EP, Happy F*ck You Songs with Extended F@mm (along with PackFM, Substantial, and Session), the now-infamous "Clear 'Em Out" 12" single with KRS-One, and countless guest spots for artists such as Masta Ace, DJ JS-1, CunninLynguists and Immortal Technique. 2003 saw him grace the pages of The Source Magazine, MTV airwaves in a commercial for Hip Hop Week and the release of his Underscore EP. In 2005, Tonedeff released his critically acclaimed Archetype album which further cemented his place as one of Hip Hop's truly daring boundary pushers and visionaries. Fresh off the QN5 Spring Cleaning National Tour in In 2006, he took the grand prize in Lollapalooza's Last Band Standing competition, beating out over 2,000 bands of all genres from all over the world.

Combining beauty, talent and artistic innovation, Tonedeff is set to awaken hip-hop with a distinctively new sound. Following the QN5 mantra of "the New Hip-Hop," the multi-talented artist breathes new life into a dwindling art form, taking the reigns in the pursuit of new ideals as the originator, the new standard, the archetype.

*One of the many positive reviews for this dope album, don't sleep!

It's a testament to the loyalty of an artist's fan base when a debut - years in the making - can still generate a good deal of hype. Granted, Tonedeff had his hand in numerous other projects along the way (both inside and outside of his QN5 label) including guest roles on Cunninlynguists material and work with the politically volatile Immortal Technique. After prolonged anticipation swirling around the first full-length from the Queens-based emcee, 2005 finally saw Tone unveil his musical blueprint - his Archetype.

But if he really wants to be a prototype for the hip hop world to build on, I'm afraid other emcees have a lot of work cut out for them. Tone's versatility has few parallels, from "Let's Go" to an sullenly revealing look into his love/hate relationship for hip hop on "Masochist."

Besides Tone himself, a select few other producers offer beats with varying degrees of success, the best of which coming from fellow QN5 mate Kno on "Loyal." Tone delves into the hurt of friendships betrayed over a slow progression of tones and drum kicks, complete with a helium-laced chorus like those heard all over Kno's work with Cunninlynguists.

But the true pinnacle of Tone's debut comes on the beautifully mellow "Porcelain," a look into unrequited young love spit with pinpoint precision: "7 years of frustration then hit her ears with abrasion/ As I laced her with my tale of lust, tears and anticipation, her reaction was a face of fakeness."

Archetype is an engaging trip from start to finish, but don't get too comfortable or else Tone's rapid-fire style makes it easy to miss out on his high-caliber lyricism. His flow is truly one of a kind, though, covering up for the occasional musical misstep.

Dope Tonedeff music video "Move In, Ride Out"!!

The smash follow-up to QN5's initial offering in the mixtape arena, Asterisk:Two blew the doors off every hip-hop compilation in 2003.

Asterisk:Two marked a new direction for the mixtape series, once again blended by DJ JS-1 . This time around, the label focused it's effort to provide a multitude of exclusive cuts as opposed to the general "mixtape" re-hashing on volume One. So, in essence, Asterisk:Two is actually a compilation and not a mixtape. With all original production and guest appearances by many QN5-affiliates, this edition flows effortlessly as a continuous mix for 80 minutes (including a special JS-1 hidden cut-track).

Contained on Two, are the now standard 'show-closers', "Beastin!" by Mecca and Session's cautionary "Don't Do It To Yourself", which along with PackFM's "Forever Shine" & Tonedeff's "Heavyweight" serve as super-sneak previews of each artists forthcoming solo albums.

Along with these new anthems, Two features some truly brilliant guest appearances. If there's one thing QN5 Music knows how to do - it's put production. Just take a listen to Carolina-native Supastition's "It's Over Now", and see how ferociously correct Domingo laced the beat. Also, Cashmere The Pro's "Grown Man B.I." features some of silky jazz keys and a thorough drum track courtesy of Kno.

Following in the tradition of former indie-powerhouse, Rawkus Records, QN5 Music set out to create the next compilation that would serve as the definitve annual mixtape for the label. Asterisk:One is a collection of exclusive & previously released singles, freestyles and b-sides 100% produced or featuring QN5 artists. The main purpose of this CD's creation was to sell at Rocksteady Crew's 25th Anniversary Celebration in New York City in 2002.

Utitlizing the wonders of technology, the dextourously gifted DJ JS-1 mixed, chopped & blended the various QN5 cuts into one cohesive CD mixtape with no gaps or pauses between cuts. This is 72 minutes of non-stop hip-hop music. This would also mark the 1st of many collaborations between the DJ & the label.

Pressed as a CD-R style mixtape, Asterisk:One managed to introduce the label to countless throngs of hungry hip-hop heads, with such cuts as the Kno-produced, "Arrogant (f/ Substantial, Tonedeff, PackFM & Rise)" and the very first appearance of Extended Famm on "The Evil That Pens Do".

Although, much of what is contained on Asterisk:One is previously released material, there are a few truly EXCLUSIVE tracks that can't be found on any other release in their entirety. Tracks such as The Plague's now infamous "Most High (Plague Anthem)" (complete with a 13.5 syllables per second appearance by Tonedeff), Mr. Mecca's first CD appearance on "Alphamale" and Deacon The Villain's ridiculously infectious roller, "Woodgrain".

Although Asterisk:One pales in comparison to the concentrated effort for exclusivity made on sequel, the mere fact that this is THE FIRST QN5 MIXTAPE is reason alone to pick this one up.
