Dubbed "Pennsylvania's Hip-Hop Supergroup," Reef The Lost Cauze, Charon Don, State Store and founder Chief Kamachi, join forces for their highly anticipated collective debut Black Candles. While all four emcees were featured last year on Kamachi's solo debut Cult Status, this Army of the Pharoahs' member is not the only rapper in the group to have already made a name for himself. Reef the Lost Cauze gained recognition as one of the nation's top battling emcees when he won the "04 Rocksteady Battle," while Charon Don is a four-time winner of the Battle of the Beats on Pittsburgh's #1 urban radio station, 106.7 WAMO. Black Candles features beats by Eastern Conference in-house producer, Mighty Mi.

Consisting of renowned Wu-Tang/RZA affiliate (and Wu-Elements member) Bronze Nazareth and up and coming emcee Kevlaar 7, "The Unknown" finally makes its retail debut. Predating Bronze's acclaimed 2006 solo debut, "The Great Migration" as well as the more recent 2007 release from his collective The Wisemen (also comprised of Kevlaar 7), "The Unknown" is a glimpse into the early, raw creativity of two of indie hip-hop's rising stars.

The Unknown album, is what I like to call ‘pre-season’. This album was recorded out of pocket, from around 1995-2000. It took so long because we were rookies, we were ultimately proud of this product, after the work and experience was put in on this album. Playing studios anywhere from $50-$75 an hour when we were broke was quite a feat, as a result (after ensuing years of sharpening our skills) there are off kilter deliveries, overcrowded rhymes, sparse beats, but the album still resonates a feel. This album was a needed stepping stone towards the Great Migration of Bronze and The Wisemen. Even if imperfect, signs of what would come radiate from this early release. - Bronze Nazareth

Bio:
18 year old producer/emcee from Rochester, NY. Just trying to get my name known. I've been rhyming for about 7 years, Producing for 3. I've always tried to incorporate who I am as a person into my music, whether it be on the MPC or the mic. The honesty is my catch. So far, from putting out beat tapes and performing in Rochester and Philly, people are appreciating what I bring to the table.

Forbidden Fruit 1-2 (The H.E.R. Edition):
This is the second installment of the instrumental series "Forbidden Fruit".
Vol. 0-1 was released in May of 08'. it sold about 200 copies locally. But it was very unorganized and sloppy. Hopefully this album is much better received and appreciated.
I like to let the listener decide, but if I had to describe the sound of this project...
It's a fresh blend of soul, jazz and hip-hop. I try to keep my drums as dirty as possible, I try to chop like nobody else is doing it, and it's very important to me that the sound is always very emotional and meaningful.

After several years, Smoothe Da Hustler has returned with a brand new album, Violenttimes Day on S.M.G. Records, which hit the streets on February 14th, 2008. The album is a street leak album which features guest appearances from partners in rhyme, Trigger Tha Gambler and DV Alias Khryst.

Smoothe had been missing from the game for quite some time due to prior label obligations and personal mishaps, but unknowingly fans didn't have to wait long to hear more material from the artist. Through the art of ghostwriting, Smoothe's spirit was still present on some of your favorite rapper's albums.

Smoothe's last official album, Once Upon A Time in America, was released in 1995 and became a monster hit, earning the Hustler a gold certification with 500,000+ albums sold. The momentum of his underground smash, "Broken Language", erupted the airwaves and music video channels at a time when record labels frowned upon the marketability of hardcore songs.

Violenttimes Day, as strategically planned, dropped on the day of love and was a lyrical delivery of a microphone centered in dead roses. When asked about his inspiration, Smoothe had these words to offer, "I was just tired of the 'same' industry of music. Valentine's Day is a day everybody is supposed to be celebrating love. The game ain't got no love! So, it's Violenttimes Day."

The title track lives up to its name as Smoothe serves up a lyrical slaughter; even administering a few blows to a well known emcee for hustler infringing. The first single, "About My Bread", is already buzzing and being embraced by the Hip Hop community.

As is the trend for many an aspiring MC, appearing on underground mix tapes throughout the New York Metropolitan area was this Brooklyn rapper's jumpoff. In 1995, having circulated his name and created a buzz, Smoothe made a power move with the release of "Broken Language," an exercise in thug-life linguistics that helped influence a new style of MCing. The track was actually the B-side of their original single for Profile Records, "Hustlin'." "Hustlin'" was better-than-average hip-hop, but the B-side sleeper became Smoothe's claim to fame. With free verse stanzas littered with abrupt, staccato phrases and hanging rhymes, Smoothe and his younger brother Trigga Tha Gambler captured the underground's attention. The rhymes of "Broken Language" sounded like automatic gunfire on wax. After almost a year of trepidation, Smoothe borrowed the title from an old Sergio Leone gangster film for his debut album, Once Upon a Time in America. The album was fairly strong, but nothing on it was equivalent to the originality of "Broken Language." The use of Curtis Mayfield's "Freddie's Dead" for the track "Hustler's Theme" was particularly unimaginative. Smoothe and his talented brother Trigga took on East Coast crime hip-hop with aplomb, but in the end, despite his quick-witted style and enormous talents, Smoothe did little to immunize himself from hip-hop's mid-'90s outbreak of one-hit wonders.

The portrait of a starving MC, Bronx-native Nine got his big break in late 1993 as a featured guest on Funkmaster Flex and the Ghetto Celebs' "Six Million Ways to Die." The verse showcased Nine's harsh, gravelly flow and the artist was signed a deal with the now-defunct Profile Records. Nine's debut album, Nine Livez, appeared in early 1995 on the strength of the up-tempo single "Whatchu Want." While the album did not make a big splash, it spawned a slew of underground hits including "Redrum," "Everybody Won Heaven," and "Any Emcee," which tastefully borrowed from the Spinners' "I'll Be Around." Nine's signature black lung vocal tone drew some comparisons to the over-the-top antics of Busta Rhymes. Nine followed up with Cloud Nine in 1996, then mostly fell off hip-hop radar screens when Priority closed up shop. During his hiatus, Nine popped up on the TV series NY Undercover landing a bit part as a thug. In late 2000, the Bronx MC hinted at a comeback, releasing the single "It's Ugly.."

13. Any Emcee (4:02)

Debut album from the gravel voiced Nine, very hard to come by and for those that slept on this release, make sure you check out one of the best hip hop albums from the mid 90's, this is a definite gem that you should all have in your collection!

For this month I wanted to put the spotlight on some CFB fam, Reef The Lost Cauze. When I set out to do this mix, I was reviewing a whole gigabytes worth of mp3’s of this motherfucker. REEF HAS BEEN RAPPING A LOT. I mean a lot since like 3rd grade. But really it seems like his modern rap career started with “The High Life”. What was that, 01? Something like that.

Anyways, I was moving back to Philly from PSU and making lots of beats around that time and we collabbed on his next album “Invisible Empire” (as did Emil/Emynd). Since then he’s been dropping solo albums, crew albums, solo mixtapes, producer collab albums- all types of shit. To do this mix I ended up cutting out any rapper collabs, I just wanted to focus on Reef. Reef is a MOTHERFUCKING VERSATILE ARTIST!!! I put his battle raps, his more personal tracks, his what’s going on type tracks… all that shit, and yeah, it wasn’t easy to cut joints out to make it roughly 70 minutes. I hope y’all feel the tracklisting, and more importantly I hope Reef doesn’t think I left anything off, or cut verses off he wanted on there. Doing these is definitely different and tougher when it’s your bol’s shit.

Enough talking… I’m rambling. Make it clear though… This guy is a fucking monster. If you hate on this dude because who he rolls with or who he is associated with, fuck what you heard. This dude is nasty on all types of tracks.

Funky DL returns with his all new album…

Funky DL’s 4th Quarter album epitomizes the essence of quality hip-hop. It takes no prisoners and quenches every possible thirst of the true rap music lover in ways that can only be un-described in comparison to other hip-hop albums currently stalking the commercial arena. With guest features from Jazz Funk Genius Xantoné Blacq, Turntable Legend DJ Kofi and newcomers Lei-an and Dukus Alemay, this long player delivers track after track.

Consisting of 12 nail-biting tracks, the album is divided over four quarters with each quarter distinct in its own theme. The Soul (1), New Age (2), Jazz (3) and Authentic (4) Quarters complete this amazing set in an age where commercial modesty and grunge type aggression seem to dominate hip-hop.
The 4th quarter liberates and emancipates everything once great about hip-hop that was unjustly lost… True hip-hop is back…

Peace Everyone,

My good friend and producer extraordinaire, Khrysis from the Justice League, and myself have done a mix tape project called “Khrysis On The Board With The Heat 2″ over the summer (the first installment was done by Mick Boogie). Basically, it is a collection of all his production that he has done in the last year in a half. If you’re not familiar with Khrysis’ work, he has done production for LIttle Brother, Sean Price, Heltah Skeltah, Evidence of Dilated Peoples (check out “The Layover”), & his own group The Away Team, just to name a few. Check out his credentials: www.myspace.com/khrysisbeats.

So think of this as a “Beat CD done in a mix tape format”, freaked “Beat Junkie Style” by yours truly.

We originally wanted to press this up, but unfortunately we never had a chance to, so we decided to leak it free to everyone for the Holidays as well as providing some material for people for the meantime while we both are working on our prospective projects. So please spread the word, share it with your peoples, post it up on your blogs, whatever you wanna do….we hope that you will enjoy this mix and we appreciate the love as well.

Khrysis and myself will probably work on another mix in the near future when he is ready to drop his solo debut album, but for the meantime…enjoy. Happy Holidays people…see you in 2009.

Brothers Grimm is the 3rd album from West Australian MC Drapht. Reminiscent of Q-tip with a hypnotic flow as effortless as Grand Puba, he possesses one of the most unique voices in Australian Hip Hop. Drapht could easily rest on his style alone but this new album presents an artist replete with substance. The passion and vigour on this album are a testament to Drapht's unwavering commitment to Australian Hip Hop. Following the release of his first album 'Pale Rider' at the age of 20, the 2005 release 'Who Am I' garnered widespread success on triple j and community radio nationwide. With three seminal albums in five years, Drapht is clearly a force to be reckoned with. Brothers Grimm is an uplifting album destined to capture the imagination with its catchy hooks, intelligent wordplay and consistently phenomenal production. Drapht shifts effortlessly from the quirky and playful 'Where Yah From' and 'Jimmy Recard', to the frustration and grit of 'Soundman', 'Insomnia' and 'Don't Wanna Work.' The sombre, reflective tones of 'Falling' and 'Lose Control' present yet another string in the bow of this wordsmith, joined later by fellow MCs Ciecmate, Dazastah & Trials on the massive 'Rest In Peace'. Produced by Trials with guest production by world class Australian producers Plutonic Lab, M-Phazes and Simplex, Brothers Grimm charts a course through the breadth and width of modern Hip Hop.
