The Bay Area's (not Toronto's) Prince Ali gets a major solo release push from Hieroglyphics Imperium! As he is constantly dissatisfied with some of the music that is getting more play from the Bay these days, Prince Ali refuses to conform and drops a diversified album full of melodic rhymes and rhythms over hard hitting tracks like "The Majors" with Planet Asia, Casual and Keith Murray, to space-y vibes like "Side Show". For fans of Bored Stiff's From the Ground Up and featuring a slew of other Hiero cameos from A-Plus, Tajai and Pep Love.

Hip Hop is not dead, it"s just hard to find. Luckily for those interested in a real approach to music there are still artists who put quality before quantity. First discovered for his production work on Lightheaded"s "Pure Thoughts" LP, Muneshine has successfully built a strong following domestically and overseas. Known both for his production and emceeing, he has collaborated with artists such as: Pete Rock, Lord Finesse, DJ Spinna, Little Brother, Punchline & Wordsworth, Louis Logic, Grap Luva and many more.

With a long list of production and remix credits, Muneshine has now returned with an elaborate collection of Hip Hop instrumentals. Focusing mostly on jazz, soul and funk influences, "A Walk In The Park" is an album reminiscent of BBE"s early "Beat Generation" series. If classic composition and spectacular sample selection are essential to your listening experience, Muneshine"s "A Walk In The Park" is for you.

Chops' production is like no other product in hip hop. Chops is a true musician crafting all of his tracks from the music inside of his soul and rarely resorting to sampling like most hip hop/ rap producers. After collaborating with each artist while the song is being recorded, Chops uses post production to custom tailor his tracks to the artist's performance, delivery, and vibe. Chops' music has incredible universal appeal, yet retails the unmistakable Philadelphia vibe. Chops first came to recognition with the Philly-based hip hop group the Mountain Brothers. The group's self-released debut album, Self, Volume 1 (1998) earned widespread critical acclaim among the music press. Chops' Virtuosity delves into the world of Chops' groundbreaking production. Household names within the hip hop game have lined up to collaborate with Chops in this masterpiece entitled Virtuosity.

Singapore Kane is a rapid rising rap star in his native city of Boston, Massachusetts. Being born of Jamaican decent to his mother Faith and Legendary Boston reggae artist Danny Tucker, Singapore was introduced to the sounds and rythym of music at an early age. Kane started his quest to become a force in the hip-hop industry in the fourth grade, discovering his ability to write clever poems, limericks and haiku's. Over time, Singapore has laid many of his competitors in the dust, hence his name Singapore Kane, derived through the lyrical bashing of his opponents during freestyle battles.

Singa is most known for his ability to conjure up vivid imagery with his lyrics. Whether spitting on topics regarding the streets or world politics, his rhymes leave you with plenty to envision and contemplate . Singa explains it best, "You don't hear my lyrics, you see em." He is a dedicated advocate for inner city youth voicing their concerns and struggles on many of his tracks. Self-described as a "Street Journalist & Observer," Singapore represents his home-town of Mattapan and the controversies that surround him.

Sup y'all, now's the time to vote for your best hip hop album of 2008. Here's how it works, the list on the right is all the real hip hop albums released from July onwards. The top 5 will go against the top 5 that one from our previous poll for Best Hip Hop album between January and June. You can see who topped that poll under the current poll. I think this is a fair way to narrow down the best album throughout the whole year (and there were a lot of albums!!!) and see what really is the ultimate best album, no matter at what point in 2008 it was released. Once this poll ends, We'll do a top 10 poll with each five going against each other and we'll reveal the eventual winner on Dec 30th!!! With that said... GET VOTING!!! oh, and you can vote for more than one, but try and be fair!

Hailing from the streets of Uptown Manhattan. He is no stranger to battles or ciphers, Milano made his name known in D&D studios by shooting off lyrical artillery head to head with the legendary Big Punisher. This ultimately landed him his classic duet with Big Pun called “Where Ya At?” as well as with Cuban Linx & O.C. on “Hey Luv”, both featured on DITC’s album “Worldwide”. Soon after, Milano dropped his first 12″ single “Deal With A Feeling” backed by the warrior driven B-Side “Rep For The Slums”. Milano has been featured on numerous street mix tapes, not to mention his appearances on Hip Hop radio shows like the Half Time Radio Show & Stretch Armstrong show on NYC’s Hot 97. In 2008, Milano plans to follow in the footsteps of lyrical giants such as Rakim, Nas, Big Pun, with his forthcoming album release on Affluent Records. With production from T-Ray, Showbiz, Will Tell, Agallah, Chaze and more… “Sidewalk Stories” the album will bring Hip-Hop back to the essence!

Growing up in the city know as the big apple with a musical family background of jazz and blues it was not long before Nironic found himself with a guitar in his hand and rapping just to entertain his family…
After attending music performance school he fell in love with the drums and after some short time started working in S.I.R. studio in new york, this was the first step in his career allowing him to meet with the group LIVING COLOUR who invited him to tour with them as a drum tech, and programmer…
Nironic passion for rapping keep him writing while on tour with living colour and when the band members heard him they created an opening in their show for him, as guest during their European tour, and after was invited to the studio by Doug Winbash to record and there was no looking back.

Nironic came back to Europe and formed the band CHERRYHILL who''s first single release NO SURRENDER hit no.17 in the video charts, which caught the attention of the Czech top group Indy a Wich.. Then came his first collab. With this group and it was a hit at no.1 in the charts and stayed at no 1 for 5 months, with this success there were no questions what will be next and it came. The beginning of what has turned out to be one of the hottest collaboration setups. The solo album Chronicles of a Nomad

Don't sleep on this, along with that Wildelux album I posted, this is one of the best albums released last year that you never knew about. I think DJ Wich produced the whole album and if you got to check the DJ Wich album, The Golden Touch then you know the beats are gonna be fire. There's a perfect blend of boom bap, soul and clubby vibe without sounding wack or cheesy. Nironic definitely can spit and as you progress through the album, you soon realise how ill Nironic is. Trust me, this is one sick album and you'd be crazy to past this one up. He also has a recently released EP called "Let's Go" which I'll post up in a little which ain't bad but this right here is the real deal. Don't forget to let me know what y'all think of the album! Enjoy!!!

Heavily endorsed by The Smoking Section & hosted by Trackstar The DJ, The Aristocrats is Wafeek's second solo release. The title is twofold in name - an allusion to the mythic dirty joke told and retold by comedians and the subject of a documentary of the same name in 2005. Also, it's a reference to Wafeek's ability to carry the torch on behalf of Hip-Hop's grand tradition of storytellers.

Wafeek has taken a novel approach, eliminating the bells and whistles to simply create a mixtape full of damn good music. This barebones approach captures Wafeek's essence; each song is a conversation in which the St. Louis MC reveals details about himself and his credo while inviting the listener to add input.

To say Wafeek is gifted on the mic is an understatement. "Instant Gratification" and "Internet Celebrity" are going to be lauded for their great storytelling and emotional core. However, "Let The Beat Build Backwards" is just Wafeek spitting bars like a madman to show off his insane talent. His flow & talents are multifaceted and undeniable!

1.Intro-Produced by Dro
2.Just Go - Produced by Damien Taylor and Shawn Lindell
3.Wafeek(ee) - Produced by Riley w/Keys by Ish and Vocals by Lady Ann
4.Die Backwards
5.Rags 2 Riches - Produced by Tech Supreme
6.Rep My Hood (Snippet) - Produced by Shawn Lindell and Skhye Hutch
7.The Hollows-Produced by Visto
8.Power of Rap - Originally "Give it to Me" Remix by Timberland

14.Three the Hard Way (Pause) - Produced by Vandalyzm

Aight people. this is my 1st post in here and I'm starting with a great record from the crew...
ILL SOURCE. There’s not much information to share bout those cats. The record got much attention the last few months as the track “devastation” was used on several mixtapes around the globe. This lil hype obviously already created the strong will in some diggers heads to get crazy on the wax and bid hard at “tha bay”. Guess that’s why the last copy seen on ebay went for more than 70bucks!!! C’mon people – it’s a fresh wax but IMO never worth this amount of cream!
Anyway let’s get to the content on this twelve. The a-side is giving you the very solid tune “immaculate” that starts with an introduction that is taken from a medieval movie (it may be “Braveheart” but not sure…). I already apologize for the 2 skips you can hear at the beginning of the tune. Dunno if they’re on the record or from my needlz that need to be replaced once! On the flipside is the banger track I was talking bout above – “devastation”.
When my homie Onur played this track the 1st time (I didn’t know that gem before!) I experienced damn goosebumps! I think the reason to that are the spherical synthesizer sounds that are just awesome and build the main structure of that track. Rhyme wise it ain’t the best though but who cares with such a damn dope beat?
The vinyl was released approx. 1996 on the unknown Blue House Ent. Label.

.
well then - njoy - peez - I'mOut - ral278
BTW: new link is activated and working (f?*k file-upload...won't use this sh#t anymore!!)

With accessible lyrics and production that can be enjoyed by anyone who likes real hip hop, New Jersey native 8thW1 drops a full-length debut worth a listen with Love, Money and Music! Starting at a young age and perfecting his skills over the years, the seasoned emcee conceptualizes the albums meaning on every track, and overall the philosophy is that you can have money, love, and music but you can almost never have all three and be happy without outside influences and hardships in your life that only you can overcome. Intellectual, philosophical a little spiritual, at times experimental and not afraid of criticism. If you need comparisons think a less commercially influenced Lupe Fiasco.

We're not posting this on the blog for good reason, if you know how we do then you know where it'll be. With that said, this is a definite must have album. As with the Cymarshall Law album, I was blown away when I first heard this. We all know about the big guns in the world of underground hip hop and this year is no different with the likes of Reef, Reks, Almighty, JMT and other heavy hitters dropping dope albums but every now and again there'll be an album that comes out with no real known label backing and little promotion that really surprises you... like the aforementioned album by Cy Law and the other recent release, I-Disciple - The Compass. This is one of those such albums and this is why I actively make the effort to promote these artists and hope that people that didn't know anything about them will discover more ill hip hop like this.

Anyway, below is some exclusive tracks you can check out or download, should you decide to buy the album, you can do that directly from either of the 2 myspace links below for the nice price of $12 or roughly £8 for the UK heads... this is where your money should be going, no matter if or when it gets leaked or you can cop it for free, trust me, it always feels good when you know your money is going towards buying quality hip hop like this. Enjoy my choice for ALBUM OF THE WEEK!!!
