Babu's influence in hip-hop started in the 1990s, as he played an essential role in the evolution of the DJ with the Los Angeles collective, The World Famous Beat Junkies. Taking his talents to a higher level, in 1997, he stormed the DJ battle scene and was the first to win all 3 categories (Scratching, Beat Juggling, and Teams) at the International Turntablist Federation.

While continuing to be a dominant force in the battle scene, Babu released a number of ground breaking mixtape albums combining intricate mixing and turntablism.

From these releases, the most notable included Comprehension, Duck Season Vol. 1 & 2, and his 1999 collaboration effort Sound Bombing 2 (Rawkus Records) with fellow Beat Junkie, DJ J Rocc.

As an official member of the West Coast group Dilated Peoples he stands at the forefront, as the group's DJ, he preserves the art of turntablism and lets all fans know that the "DJ feat. is the backbone of hip-hop.

One of the most documented DJs in the world, Babu continues to appear in both national and international media outlets, including live television showcases on MTV's "Sucker Free feat. and BET's "Rap City", as well as feature stories in high profiled music publications such as VIBE, Source, XXL, and Rolling Stone.

Unlike the mostly NY-centric focus by other DJs, Babu has always made sure his West Coast peers get equal time. While NY stalwarts like Talib Kweli ("Raise the Bar"), KRS-One ("Underground"), and Gang Starr ("Deadly Habits") are in the mix, so are the Bay Area's Planet Asia ("Right or Wrong") and L.A.'s Chace Infinite ("Do For Self"), Defari ("Behold My Life" remix), and of course, Dilated Peoples, who pop up three times, most effectively on Rakaa's solo joint, "Ends to Means." Duck Season 2 is markedly consistent in sound and pacing, which, on one hand, bespeaks Babu's expert mixing skills. However, it'd also be nice to hear Babu reach out more, beyond just the underground independent world, and diversify the sound of his mix-CD with different kinds of artists besides certified mic rippers. Duck Season 2 preaches effectively to the choir, but Babu could stand to get his message to a bigger congregation too.

Ex-Beat Junkie and Dilated Peoples refugee Babu takes the time-honored hip-hop tradition of the master mix and twists it up a bit. A well-traveled and well-respected man, the Los Angeles turntablist is an emcee's DJ who got his start during the early '90s, a fact reflected in Duck Season, Vol. 1's almost lazily nostalgic selection. Overall, the production work reigns supreme over fairly mediocre lyricism. However, the album's old-school feel is strengthened by Babu's tight mixing skills. Not only are the songs well blended, he actually chops things up a bit with a taste of cut 'n' scratch and some nice backspin techniques. Random snippets of dialogue and sound effects tie into the Duck Season theme. New York is repped to full effect by solid cuts from Bumpy Knuckles, M.O.P., and the Beatnuts, while Phil Da Agony and Jurassic 5 hold it down for the West.

01. Duck Season Intro
02. Watch Out (Feat. De La Soul & Jose “Perico” Hernandez)
03. Kronkite (Feat. The Creators & Phil Da Agony)
04. Duck Season (Feat. The Beatnuts & Al' Tariq)
05. Concrete Nigga (Feat. Major)
06. Patch Up The Pieces (Feat. DJ Muro & Bumpy Knuckles)
07. Follow Instructions (Feat. M.O.P.)

A compilation that features 14 tracks of hard-to-find and unreleased songs that I produced pre-Panacea, so basically all the music you hear in this digi-release was done between 2001- 2004. Features on this project include fellow DC artist/long-time collaborator Wes Felton, slept on noo-jazz enthusiast Bilal Salaam, and my spacey homie from the Bay, Malcolm Marshall. For those who wanna hear the stuff I was doing before I linked with Raw Poetic and RPM, this is it… BTW- M.A.W.S.L.O.T. was the alias I used before I realized my real name was cool enough to roll with as an artist/producer, hence the title.

The covers are finally coming off The Unveiling, the debut LP from Marq Spekt and Karniege as the Invizzibl Men. The result is a ferociously hard rap record bristling with gunmetal beats and lyrics still dripping spray-paint. The collaboration might be new but the duo has earned their stripes as solo artists; Karniege did a stint on the Definitive Jux roster, dropping the memorable ‘Make News’ 12”, toured the world with Vast Aire several times over and kept his name ringing in the underground by popping up on projects by everyone from DJ Ese to Dub L to the Reavers as well as forming Mighty Joseph with Vast Aire. MarQ Spekt ‘s lineage is equally storied if a little grimier; signed to the legendary Subverse Records alongside artists like MF DOOM and the Micranauts, prominently featured on all of Bigg Jus of Company Flow’s solo albums, the brain behind the streetwise Broady Champs’ ’05 debut… Spekt has already cemented his place in the underground pantheon without stepping out of the shadows, until now. Guests on The Unveiling include Cannibal Ox, C-Rayz Walz, billy woods (of Super Chron Flight Brothers), and the Broady Champs.

With the new generations of emerging artists looking uncertain, there are few blessed with substance and talent. Among those prominent in view is, Theo. The Providence, R.I. native is here to offer versatility & timelessness to the music industry. Recent artists mimic the previous successes of past music individuals, who offer no form of self identity to the music industry, "they seem to be afraid of themselves", says Theo. Coming from a musical background Theo is also a well known DJ. His passion as a DJ helped him grow a strong appreciation for music, "in the 80's & 90's you had people like RUN from Run DMC, Dr. Dre, Erick Sermon & Jermaine Dupri who all, besides being artists, DJ'd as well as produced, it wasn't an issue for them. We also have that now with artists like Hi-Tek, Kanye West & Lauryn Hill who all are multi-talented." Music that evokes emotion, passion & is embraced by the masses is what is called for. Theo combines diversity, swagger with rhymes & harmonies. With style, taste, incredible wordplay & vocal range, Theo is in a class all by himself.

Well it's about time! The ever elusive Son of Ran returns to San Diego after a few short years in the Bay hustling his highly sought after Sky City album (No, we still don't have it!) and pairs up with producing collective The Messangers...and that's not a spelling error by the way. Incoming Message is about growth and maturity and finding your place in this world. Son of Ran is one of the most talked about emcees that you still haven't heard of...but his message is inspirational. Disciplined and spiritual, faith based and promoting the values of family and friends in life, it is through hip hop and his writing that he is able to share this with the listener. As an incredibly skilled lyricist, the soulful production provided by the Messangers helps fuel the energy of the album on a personal note, like morality tales for the streets he's from. It's time to see what all the fuss is about...

And if you like soulful boom bap beats, The Messangers have that in abundance and together with Son of Ran, they don't disappoint! A very good release which definitely deserves more mention.

I'm diggin this album right here, beats are bangin, guests are all varied and the overall package is very impressive. If you DJ in any clubs or house party's you'll find around half the tracks would most definitely rock a crowd thanks to his use of sped up vocals and other nice touches that balance mainstream and underground together. I hate Lil' Wayne's music but when you hear him on the track "What We Need" you'll just be thinking how dope the beat is, I rotate that non-stop on my Serato along with other fave joints like "Give Up Your Guns", "It Don't Stop" and my current favourite, "They Don't Know How". Don't sleep on this producer, he should be making a lot more noise in the '09!

Hip Hop is the stage for elemental skills of the emcee and producer to come together, shine and thrive. This creative arena where both the super emcee and the super producer battle for respect while inflicting musical and lyrical damage to the microphone, the speakers, and most importantly the mind and ears of the hip hop fan. This worldwide and often underground stage has also witnessed extraordinary moments when a super talented emcee and dope producer come together to join forces and the result is a musical dynamic that cannot be duplicated when one is apart from the other. Recall emcee/producer hip hop duo juggernauts like Eric B. & Rakim, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, and DJ Premier and Guru. These classic collaborations created not only unparralleled hip hop classics but achieved a level of quality, coolness and cohesiveness that has almost disappeared from Hip Hop. Now the stars have aligned to allow another super collaboration between emcee and producer- behold as we present to you MOE POPE and HEADNODIC as MEGAPHONE... a welcome return to the producer + emcee combinatins brings back two former members of the group Mission:, the same Boston/ Bay Area group that had at once brought us the highly praised hip hop album 'One'. Mission, now known as Crown City Rockers. Now, as Megaphone, Headnodic's buttery fresh pound-for-pound heavyweight sound production is matched with Moe Pope's revolutionary-punk-rock-on-static vocals and so the latest hip hop producer/emcee duo emerges. NatAural High Re3cords welcomes the latest and rawest return of the producer/emcee combination that will produce a new set of Hip Hop classics for a new generation of Hip Hop Fans.

FILI-
This album is amazing!!! Yep, it's that good, released last year and largely slept on, this gem will be classed as a classic in the years to come. When you have the combination of 1 producer and 1 MC, it makes for a more complete album and like other greats before them, Eric. B & Rakim, Pete Rock & CL Smooth etc... Moe Pope & producer Headnodic have crafted a hip hop album that'll stand the test of time over the years, this album takes you back to the golden age while still having an updated sound for the new school heads. Moe Pope is a dope MC, with a supa flow that just gets you hyped everytime he's spittin', then you have Headnodic who perfectly complements Moe's style with some truly mesmerising beats, the chemistry between these two is obviously there for all to see. Definitely check this album out, buy it if you like it, you will not be disappointed!

Tired of hearing that new Kylie record for the millionth time? Are you slowly edging toward suicide through seeing too many skinny jeaned indie kids? It's time for you to re-evaluate your musical relationship and take a serious look into 'The Divorce'. Understandably, this will be a tough time for you. So to make the transition as painless as possible, we have trained musical practitioner, Dagha, at your service. Having cut his teeth on the stages of the world with Lewis Recordings legend Edan and appearing on his best selling album 'Beauty and The Beat', Dagha released his debut album 'Object In Motion' to critical acclaim. Hip-Hop Connection Magazine awarded it a 5-star review and Elemental heralded the emcee 'as sharp as his moniker'. His latest release raises the bar even further. Big drums, bigger samples and a tongue in cheek outlook on many of our daily gripes. It is through surviving a tortuous divorce that our hero Dagha can hold your hand through your musical tribulations. A more clichéd press release would call “The Divorce” an honest, human and refreshing release. A more honest, human and refreshing press release would call the album dope, banging and enjoyable throughout.

Whether you're in a relationship, been divorced etc... you'll be able to relate, even if you haven't had similar experiences to Dagha you can still be rest assured that you'll be witnessing a very dope album indeed... beats, rhymes, it's all here, make sure you take the time to check this one out!

Originally from Baltimore, San Diego rapper, poet, mc, Blame One is no new jack. Since 9 this cat has been not only rappen and making songs but in his early age you could find him on stage. He was one of those young prodigy rappers you would see at a show and you would be like " Dam that little white kid is rippen!" Yup this cat was not even a teenager before he shared the stage with the likes of west coast legend King Tee. After recording different demos and songs over tape loops and what not blame formed a group with childhood friend Deja Vu and formed the group Mysteries Extinction. Deja was cousins with another slept on mc, Gods Gift and they began making music together with then Loot Pack member Kan KIck. One of Blames earlier songs was even produced by Madlib, (without his knowledge but recorded by OH NO like in 94.) Moving on to 95-96 you could catch Blame making songs with the likes of Emanons Exile and Aloe Blacc to now makin songs with Mainflow and Johaz.

After all this work you may be asking, why have i never heard of this dude? Well for one if you really do something for love as Blame does, then love is all the payment you need. Blame is a real humble cat and he humbly was satisfied with just doing local shows and selling stuff to cats face to face. Also people are just not checkin for cats in San Diego as they should be. But now with help of long time friend Exile the two have formed an album that can not be held back by where your from but can only be held up in acclaim by where one's at! With production from Exile, Kan Kick, Black MIlk, OH NO, Blu, and features from Sean P to Aloe Blacc, this album is not one to sleep on.

With over 19 years of rappin Blame is an OG in the game wheather you heard of him or not and now is his time to shine. So humbly open your minds, ears and hearts for this new album Days Chasing Days when it drops on March 31st!!!

FILI-
I've been waitin' patiently for this one and now I finally got my hands on it, I wanna share it with you guys out there, make sure you check out one of the most slept on gems of 2008, partly due to the fact that it's was only and still is only available from his MySpace page. This doesn't have an official release date as yet, but look for it to make an appearance on itunes real soon. If you already peeped Lotus Society Vol. 1 & 2 then you know what to expect... this is one serious album and I definitely recommend it to anyone who has love for that "Wu" sound of old!
