Something different for you lot out there, we all know Ayatollah is a legendary producer and Canibus is a lyrical monster so what happens when you mix recent Canibus acapellas over Ayatollah's soulful, boom-bap production?... see for yourself. I loved it by the way, dope shit right here!

His third, and strongest, outing to date, Priest, Thief + Wizard is a solid collection of infectious grooves destined to win friends and influence people. Blame One spits with classic cool. Poised and poetic, his rhymes are silk and exercise a constant flow with casual, sparsely interjected rupture. This is a page straight from the textbook of hip-hop theory. Blame One is truly an MC’s MC.

Stemming from a purely independent production philosophy, Blame One’s creations exhibit a very unique hip-hop presence. Unexcitable, unexaggerated, and yet unadulterated, on the mic it would seem that Blame One just doesn’t give a shit. Maybe it’s that he gives too much. He speaks the real for those drowning in the overblown. No bullshit. No ego trips. This is hip-hop for hip-hoppers without any time for bumptious, hyperbolic beats.

Blame One’s music speaks for itself. Consistently throwing it back to old school funk/soul, his beats are classic to the core with literate intelligible rhymes to sink your teeth into. This is serious substance. A typical, anti-modern hip-hop backlash is complemented with legitimate commentary of politics, life and the wave-like effect of our actions. Like some preachy MC’s, Blame One doesn’t claim to be a revolutionary, nor does he lecture from an infallible perspective. The album is accompanied by the simple request that you just listen. Simply take heed.

Honestly, you’d be foolish to pass this one up. An MC like this is rare. Catch it before he explodes, goes major label and the world wants to get their fingers in it. This is the real, raw hip-hop scripture and it might not be pure for long.

Rapper Big John from Tacoma, Washington has done more in one year than most can do in four. In twelve short months, Big John has managed to establish and manage his own label, record two full length albums, start an international group (coming soon), and perform alongside Hip Hop legends Kool G Rap, Kool Keith, Canibus, Kut Masta Kurt, and R.A. The Rugged Man. Big John's rap style is rapid fire, raw, and aggressive and on "The Next Step," he teams up with producers from all around the world to give the album a balanced sound. Production credits include Loptimist (South Korea), DC The Midi Alien (USA), Carling Edno (Italy), Beyonder (USA), Lizzo (Germany) and more! Featured tracks for "The Next Step" include two songs with Canibus, three with Boston rap veteran Esoteric, the iconic Kool G Rap, R.A. The Rugged Man and more!

I'll be honest, Big John don't really do it for me when he's on the mic... unless you like that kinda screaming, shouting voice and basic battle lines, but when you got dope beats from Loptimist, DC the MIDI Alien to name a couple and guests like the Kool G Rap, R.A the Rugged Man, Esoteric, Canibus etc... then you can't really go wrong. I know this album slipped past a few people when it was released beginning of the year but def check it out... bangin beats and guest spots elevate this album from sub-standard to pretty dope!

Genuinely considered the Godfather of Boston Hip-hop, EDO. G has crafted a handful of classics (“Be A Father To Your Child,” “I Got To Have It” and “Love Comes And Goes” among others) and in 1991 his “I Gotta Have it” hit number one on Billboard and the YO! MTV Raps countdown. His debut, Life Of A Kid In The Ghetto, sold over 600,000 units on the strength of Edo’s flawless portraits of inequalities in Roxbury, and became his city’s first and only rap artist to ever go gold. In the 15 years since, EDO’s dropped four heralded LPs and two EPs, toured the world extensively, and collaborated with the likes of Pete Rock, DJ Premier, KRS One, Common, Black Thought and Masta Ace.

Formerly the front-man for The Kreators, Jaysaun sold 10,000 copies of the Boston classic, Home, (featuring Guru, Big Shug, Akrobatik, Krumbsnatcha, and EDO. G), and was nominated for three Boston Music Awards, and even garnered significant MTV rotation. One of Boston’s most respected wordsmiths, Jay has worked with Pete Rock, Cappadonna, and DJ Premier and has been an instrumental component in EDO’s recent solo releases.

The Southie gunner Slaine has become an overnight force! He dropped his infamous mixtape; The White Man is the Devil Volume 1 in 2005 and moved more than 7,000 units without any distribution. Recently he followed that up with its sequel Citizen Caine. Slaine’s controversial tales of cocaine abuse, pharmacy robberies, violence, politics, racism, combined with his brutal imagery, have earned him the respect of collaborators such as Royce 5′9″, Krumbsnatcha, Hatebreed, DJ Premier, DJ Muggs, B Real, Everlast, DJ Lethal and Ill Bill, the latter three of whom he moonlights with as La Coka Nostra.

For Special Teamz first collaborative effort, Stereotypez, the stakes are much higher. Boasting guest appearances from Devin The Dude, Sean Price, Buckshot, Ill Bill, Akrobatik and Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta as well as production from legendary producers DJ Premier and Pete Rock and rising beatmakers Marco Polo, Moss, Jake One and Xplicit. Special Teamz’s Duck Down debut proves what their fanbase already knows: that no matter what preconceived notions people have about their city, Boston’s top guns deliver some of the most socio-politically relevant boom-bap in recent memory. And while their rhymes are the sound of race lines being crossed and barriers being broken, it’s really just the sound of rewind-worthy Hip-hop music, and that’s all that really matters.

Shawn Jackson's latest project, "First of All..." is a highly anticipated album that aims to satisfy true fans that feel a void within quality hip hop music. The album is a wonderful balance of sounds which features artists such as Guilty Simpson (Stones Throw Records), Ty of Ty & Kory, Double K (People Under the Stairs), Ta'Raach (C.R.A.C.), Beloved, and Comel of the group Time Machine. The LP is a collaboration between North Philadelphia emcee iCON The Mic King, and Eastern Connecticut producer Chum The Skrilla Guerilla. The album borrows its title from the 80's TV series 'Jake and the Fatman', and although it doesn't stay fused to the theme too strongly, after you've heard the album it won't matter.

One thing that became apparent to me upon listening to this is how much iCON has grown since the 'Intricate Spectrum EP'. His delivery and flow are more polished, witnessed as he effortlessly cuts through each track on this album. Of course iCON doesn't get all the credit here, Chum (best known for producing Apathy's album 'Eastern Philosophy') provides solid tracks for iCON to run around with memorable lyrics. iCON is a complete emcee. Whether you want punchlines ("I'm unbeatable, not even my memory serves me correctly"), food for thought ("Here she is homeless, former smoker and battered wife/ Yeah her appetite for love, and hope is magnified/ She's broke but not broken, life pumps under her skin/ A businessman spits in her hands, "Change comes from within"/ With that saliva in her palms/ And delight in her heart/ She prayed "For your sake I hope you know how right that you are"), storytelling (See 'Mike and the Fatman'), or just good old-fashioned bragging ("When God met me he went through an identity crisis"), he's got all bases covered. So to the end this review I'm going to quote one more line from him, if you find yourself in agreeance, odds are you'll like this album too...

"In my world if you suck, it's a sin to emcee"
*Review taken from amazon - he's right on the ball with this review, album is supa dope!!!

Of all the remix projects of Jay-Z's "American Gangster", this is by far the best of the lot, just like Kno's remix project of "The Black Album". Shuko & The Gunna create some sick beats that will probably have you agreeing with a lot of people that this is better than the original release!!! You heard it here first! Check it out...

Created by one of Hip-Hop’s most unique and beloved characters, the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard, the Brooklyn Zu is one of music’s most recognizable names. In the early ‘90’s the Wu-Tang Clan emerged out of the New York City streets and began to shape the face of modern urban music. As a member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Ol’ Dirty Bastard began building a group of his own Brooklyn emcees. Five artists combine to make up the Brooklyn Zu clique. These members include 12 O’Clock, Buddha Monk, Shorty Shitstain, Murdoc and The Zoo Keeper.

The Zu is poised to make sure no one forgets ODB or their style of music. The album enrolled many of their Wu-Tang family featuring: Ghostface Killah, the RZA, the GZA, Masta Killa, Killah Priest, Prodigal Sunn, Shyhiem, 60 Second Assassin and many more. The album also features production by the RZA and more. July 1, 2008 the untamable beast returns to breathe life back into Hip-Hop.

Ivan Ives imports a flowing dose of his Russian roots to the LA hip-hop scene. With Iconoclast, Ives’ second full-length, released under the wings of his own No Threshold imprint, the street-savvy emcee brings an outsider’s view to the Capitalist migraine that dominates so many of hip-hop’s affairs.

The album features a star-studded cast of: Cappadonna (Wu-Tang), the legendary O.C. (D.I.T.C.), 2MEX (Visionaries), Vast Aire (Cannibal Ox) and of course backed by producer, Fresh (The Hitman), who does all the beats on the album.

I know this one slipped past many of you, this is as indie as they come, small label, no promotion etc... but when I gave this a listen, the first thing that struck me were the beats! Fresh is a relatively unknown producer but cats should take notice, this dude chops up nice samples, mixing up soul, funk and other sounds to create some head nodding goodness! Ivan is a decent MC, dope guests help to... but check the beats man, I'll post up some more stuff by Fresh soon, for now, check out this banger!!

Peep this video for the dope track "Got It". Video's cheap as hell but you gotta laugh and admire the fact that this is a baaad tune! Producer Fresh comes correct again on the beat, siiick!!
