The original incarnation of the group included five MCs: Vinnie Paz, Chief Kamachi, Esoteric, Virtuoso and Bahamadia, along with JMT producer Stoupe the Enemy of Mankind. The group released their debut EP/single "The Five Perfect Exertions" b/w "War Ensemble" in 1998. Both tracks were later included on JMT's 2000 album Violent by Design; with "The Five Perfect Exertions" being remixed into "Exertions Remix", and both "Exertions" and "War Ensemble" shedding Chief Kamachi's verse. The Army of the Pharaohs project was put on the back-burner while JMT's career took off.

Blue Sky Black Death, the renowned production duo of Kingston & Young God, present their sophomore album exclusively featuring Wu-Tang Clan affiliate/ Sunz of Man member Hell Razah. Amazing album is all can say about this. Hell Razah dropped another classic last year with "Renaissance Child" and this follow-up is no exception. All beats handled by a duo called Blue Sky Black Death, they create soulful, haunting melodies... a bit like the Wu sound of old and Hell Razah spits knowledge like only he can. You gotta give it up to him, he's been gettin better with every release and continues to put out quality hip hop, check the latest... "T.H.U.G. Angelz", album is a straight up banger!!! Don't pass this one up, check the videos below if you still need convincing!

Jersey City, NJ--Living in the shadow of New York, Jersey never quite seems to shine like you know it could. There have been moments. We have seen crews like the Fugees and Redman, amongst others, but for some time now it seems like New Jerz has been awfully quiet. Until now (you knew that was coming); for anyone who had been sleeping on Jerz, this is the wake up according to some critics that have already begun to sing his praises. Backed by MF Grimm’s Day By Day Entertainment, Hasan Salaam unleashes his debut, Paradise Lost. Packed with solid introspective lyrics, socially conscious themes, humor and soul, Paradise Lost is bound to emerge Salaam to the masses as the new King of New Jeruzalem. But Salaam hasn’t been quick to accept the crown. He’s been carefully plodding his course for some time, honing his craft and developing his skills for the right moment. His mixtapes have garnered him attention on the college radio circuit and even won him a cover on the summer issue of Hunter College’s Shield magazine. In 2004, he was featured on FUSE TV, winning its Hip Hop for President contest only to turn down the crown. Instead, he went on 12 city college tour just to show he had his priorities straight. He has tirelessly performed all over the East Coast like a real emcee committed to his craft. Songs like “Blaxplotation” and “Fountain of Youth” are guaranteed to stir even the hardest of critics to comply, Jersey’s back. You be the judge. Take a listen and see for yourself.

Blu is the leader of West Coast Hip Hop. Since the days of Pharcyde, Freestyle Fellowship, and Jurassic 5, there have been few wordsmiths that have grasped the attention of listeners worldwide. Introduced to NWA and Public Enemy by his father, Blu later was captivated by the likes of Black Star, The Roots, and Common, creating a unique balance that is displayed in Blu's personality and music.

Blu's first full length LP, "Below the Heavens" pairs Blu with producer Exile on the Sound in Color imprint. His first single, "Narrow Path" has rocked stages across the world, as fans begin to feel the impact of Blu's music. His delivery flows flawlessly, while the content reflects the joy and pain of working class youth everywhere. Since the release of "Narrow Path," Blu has performed alongside Slum Village, X-Clan, Platinum Pied Pipers, Lyrics Born, DJ Houseshoes, and many others, while participating in 3 high-profile nationwide tours alongside musical family members: Ta'Raach, Aloe Blacc, and Exile.

The buzz has fans salivating for new music. Worldwide, people are looking to put hope into the 'next' emcee that will give them the same feeling when they first heard Black Thought, Common, or Slum Village. Blu fulfills this need, but maintains something that is entirely new, while not recycled.

Staten Island, NY, native NY Oil is best known for his racy rhymes, social commentary and forthright observations pertaining to the state of black culture and hip-hop. NY Oil is best known for his raucous single and accompanying video for "Y'all Should Get Lynched," which features photos of A-list hip-hop luminaries Three 6 Mafia, Jim Jones, The Game, and 50 Cent juxtaposed with stark images of slavery and lynchings. The video was banned from YouTube within its first 48 hours of upload and generated an immediate firestorm of controversy. Both a divisive and unifying figure, NY Oil speaks unabashedly about the deplorable state of commercial hip-hop music and culture on his debut album "Hood Treason," which will now enjoy its inaugural wide release after a limited and spotty self-release by the artist himself.

He is humble and has confidence in his skills as an artist. He's not trying to be the flashy emcee on TV with superstar status, but rather the well respected emcee. This emcee is the epitome of positive or conscious hip-hop. Fed up with the current state of hip-hop, Praverb continues to deliver knowledge to the masses. This positive emcee has a dedicated fan base due to performing, networking and the internet. He spends his downtime writing poems and recording them.

It’s been over two-years since they released their debut, “National Anthem”, but The Away Team (Sean Boog & Khrysis) are finally back and have readied their highly anticipated sophomore release “Training Day.” Sean Boog has already contributed noteworthy appearances on Foreign Exchange’s critically acclaimed debut, Connected (“The Answer”) the Justus League’s highly circulated mixtape NC State Of Mind and an appearance on 9th Wonder’s forthcoming solo LP Dream Merchant Vol. 2.

Continuing his ascension up the Hiphop production ladder (Khrysis’ previous production credits include Jean Grae, Big Pooh, Masta Ace, Sean Price, Smif N Wesson and Little Brother) Khrysis supremely handles all of the production duties on Training Day.

While The Away Team’s chemistry is undeniable throughout, they introduce unofficial third member, Nervous Reck, and also collaborate with Dilated People’s Evidence, Sean Price, Black Milk, Supastition and Darien Brockington on Training Day.

"Greedy"

Similar to the ideology that Gang Starr, Reflection Eternal and Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth symbolized, The Away Team (Sean Boog & Khrysis) harkens back to Hiphop’s Golden Age and reinstitutes the chemistry between emcee and producer. As the buzz around Little Brother and the Justus League continues to swell, The Away Team’s debut, National Anthem, largely reflects Sean Boog and Khrysis east coast roots ; exemplified by the spirited lead-single “Likka Hi” (Last Call) where the libations flow almost as freely as Sean Boog and their hard-hitting collaboration with the Boot Camp Click’s Smif N Wesson “Come On Down.”

Sick Jacken MySpace Page

DJ Muggs best known for his production work with the widely influential west coast veterans Cypress Hill and Soul Assassins politicks with Sick Jacken--another Soul Assassin and Cypress Hill affiliate and member of the group Psycho Realm for the watershed masterpiece: The Legend of the Mask and the Assassin. DJ Muggs has being going hard since the dawn of the 90's with his trademark dusty-sounding, and soul-driven melodies, and though lesser-known Sick Jacken is a legend in his own right with his groundbreaking contributions to the Cypress Hill offshoot, Psycho Realm. This album is a follow-up to his critically acclaimed collaboration with Gza/Genius from Wu Tang on the DJ Muggs Vs. Gza- Grandmasters LP. The LP is laden with macabre and murky sounds ideal for the socially conscious lyrics of Sick Jacken. Sick Jacken also intersperses his verses with a Spanglish-type flow in an effort to cater to his Latino brethren. Don't get it twisted though, you won't find any reggae ton booty shakin junts on this work. This album is reminiscent of the contemplative and thought-provoking commentary so pervasive in the early and late 90's (Cuban Link era as I like to refer to it). The album is a breath of fresh air amidst the saturated, intellectually devoid climate of present-day hip-hop.

Land Of Shadows

El Barrio

Peep the classic track from the "Terror Tapes" album Sick Jacken did with Cynic called "2 Sides 2 Every Story"

It's taken a while for the Wu-Tang Clan to re-build the steam they had in the early 1990s, but this intriguing project, which pairs members of the Clan with underground hip-hop luminaries such as Aesop Rock, MF Doom, Sean P., Del tha Funky Homosapien, and others, should help the cause. Conceived by Wu cohort Dreddy Kruger, and with production from the RZA and new Wu producer Bronze Nazareth, among others, this is partially a family affair, and the classic Wu feel is all over these tracks--complete with spare yet high-minded beats and eerie loops.

But it's the rotating roster of MCs that really makes this disc, with surprising pairings like Aesop Rock and Del tha Funky Homosapien on "Preservation," and the GZA and Rass Kass on "Versus" (one of the album's highlights). "Biochemical Equation" boasts a killer beat from the RZA, who also takes the mic to trade rhymes with MF Doom. A tribute to deceased Wu-Tang member Old Dirty Bastard evokes the ghost of the original Clan, but the overall flavor here is contemporary and fresh, with undercurrents of the classic sound that brought the original ruckus so many years ago.

"Invincible is one part emcee, three parts revolutionary, but the recipe is all Hip Hop." -Shook Magazine

It is truly rare to find an artist like Invincible. Her spitfire wordplay has gotten her acclaim from Hip Hop fans all across the world, while her active involvement in progressive social change has taken her music beyond entertainment, and towards actualizing the change she wishes to see. Repping Detroit, MI, many are already familiar with her work with Waajeed and the Platinum Pied Pipers, Finale, the all-female ANOMOLIES crew, Black Star, and many others. Dubbed by XXL Magazine as "every A&Rs worst nightmare" for rejecting major label deals and general industry politrix, Invincible started her own record label, EMERGENCE, self-releasing her long-awaited full length LP, ShapeShifters, June, 2008.

Chicago MC, Verbal Kent, returns with Fist Shaking, his third installment to his concept started in What Box and followed up in Move With The Walls. This concept consists of sticking to the script of dropping raw underground hip hop without the glamour and glitz. Hardcore lyrical wordplay overlaps polished and gritty beats with drums that bang the box. Cover artist Gary G keeps continuity in the artwork by giving visual sense of what the music is speaking. Top-notch production is handled by Marco Polo, Oddisee, Kaz 1, Panik, K-Kruz, and a rising talent to watch, Varan. Verbal Kent enlists his rapping peers Rusty Chains, Roadblok, Doomsday, Mood Swangz, Lance Ambu and Alltruisms for thight guest appearances. As a testament to VK's hustle and grind, Molemen Records will be releasing his current opus.

Listen to track 7, "Urban Guerillaz"

01. Building To Building
02. Die Harder feat. Octave
03. Backtrack
04. People Know feat. Lameck
05. Outside The City feat. Ovtave
06. Voices
07. Urban Guerillaz
08. Goldenshower

An album at 8 tracks? You’re having a laugh ain’t you? Well it would appear Toronto’s (T-Dot… ergh!) latest export, Wasun isn’t joking. Still, if “What Must Be Done” is dope, who cares right?

Looking at what people Wasun’s worked with shows he’s well respected in the Canadian scene (Saukrate’s & Choclair) so he’s certainly managed to hook up some quality beats, which come mainly from Octave. These instantly impress and leave you feeling like you’ve listened to some good old fashion boom bap, such as the feel good think back track “People Know” or the paranoid “Voices”. But it’s the RZA sounding “Golden Shower” track that shows Wasun in his best light on the CD. Unfortunately though, this album is over as soon as it’s started, to the point that if you’ve got your CD on loop, you’ll be thinking “haven’t I heard this already” when track 1 comes back around.
*Sone random review from the net

This EP is amazing, dope lyrics and sick beats by Octave... I can't believe I slept on this release... and it came out in '05?! On the real though, this is probably one the best EP releases since the classic "Champion EP" by Brother Ali back in '03! Don't sleep, you'll be surprised at how damn good this is! Trust me, as soon as you hear the classic "Golden Shower", you'll be cursing when you realise that that's the last track! "I wanna hear more"!!!!

I think this was originally planned for release in '07 but whatever happened, it never surfaced and Royce went on to concentrate on his 2 official projects for release in late '08. These projects include the "Bar Exam 2" mixtape, planned for release on August 26th & his official album "Street Hop". This unofficial cd recently surfaced all over the net, so if it generates some buzz leading up to "Bar Exam 2" then it's def worth a listen.
